'Yoshi's Island: Temporal Trouble is a game for the Nintendo Switch and another sequel to Yoshi's Island series. The game is heavily based on Yoshi's Island games and also based on some other Yoshi games (like Yoshi's Story and Yoshi's Wooly World) and based on some Super Mario series games. It will be a 2.5D sidescrolling game with 3D graphics for the Nintendo Switch and it will bring a new gameplay in the series, new babies (along with old ones), new stages and a brand new adventure.

Story

In the present, Bowser, along with his son, finds out to be defeated by the Mario Bros. and Yoshi another time, in an failled attemp to conquer the Mushroom Kingdoom and Peach. The king asks himself how he could defeat Mario once and for all, rememebering other times he failed. Kamek, the Magikoopa comes up with an idea and takes out his spellbook, and finds a time travel spell. He decided to use it to go back in time and erase his previous defeats, capturing the Mario Bros. and their allies in their infant forms another time. Kamek creates a portal and teleports himself, Bowser and Bowser Jr. Mr. Pipe watches the entire scene and, secretly, transports himself to the Mario Bros. house. Mario sees one note on one unusual pipe, saying that the plumber must jump to Bowser's castle and enters on it.

Kamek and Bowser arrive after the events of Yoshi's New Island and Yoshi's Island DS, where Kamek accidentally bumps into his past self. Though rough at first, the Kameks form an alliance to get the babies, alongside Bowser, his infant version and his son. They all go to Baby Peach's castle, where Toadsworth the Younger prepares the babies of the Mushroom Kingdoom to the Stork. The Koopa Army invades the castle, runs into them and they end up kidnapping Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, Baby Peach, Baby DK, Baby Wario, Baby Daisy, Baby Waluigi and Baby Rosalina, along with the Stork and the Younger.

Leaving the babies and the Stork to Baby Bowser's Castle, Kamek from the present realizes that he leaved his portal opened and Mario and Luigi appears out of the portal. Baby Bowser, however, attacked the plumbers, alongside his present self. On the fight, the Stork releases himself, and saves Toadsworth and Baby Mario, however, the trio had to escape from a group of Toadies. The enemies captured the Younger, but the Stork leaved with the baby.

On Dino Dino Island, Yoshi is taking a stroll through the island until Baby Mario falls right on his saddle. With Baby Mario, Yoshi also notices a map, detailing the direction to Bowser's Castle. Him and the other Yoshis, as well as the Stork, host a meeting about what to do with the babies. Baby Mario tries to crawl to Baby Bowser's Castle to rescue the babies, though Yoshi steps in and decides to team up with the other Yoshis to rescue the other babies. The rescue of the babies and of the Mario Bros., alongside the fate of time, depends now of the group of the Yoshis. Thus, the adventure begins.

Gameplay

Much like Yoshi's Wooly World, Yoshi's Island: Temporal Trouble is a It will be a 2.5D sidescrolling game with 3D graphics. In addition to the basic running and jumping controls, Yoshi can ingest enemies and manipulate objects with his tongue. When an enemy is in Yoshi's mouth he can either spit it out at other enemies to defeat them. Alternatively, he can swallow them and transform them into Yoshi Eggs, which trail behind Yoshi. He can carry six eggs at a time; making a seventh egg results in the egg at the front of the line being discarded. Yoshi can aim and throw these eggs as well, to hit objects and enemies. Eggs will ricochet off walls until they eventually break and cannot be used.

The game makes return of the time-based health mechanic from previous games; if Yoshi gets hit by an enemy, the baby he is carrying will be trapped in a bubble and begin floating away, crying. When this happens, a timer will begin ticking, starting from 10 and counting down to zero. Yoshi must retrieve the baby before they are taken away from Kamek's Toadies at zero. Once the baby is retrieved, the timer will slowly count back up to 10. Throughout the level, Yoshi can collect Stars to extend his timer, though should the timer be above 10 when the baby is retrieved, it will not count back up.

There is 9 normal levels on each world, being the fifth level the Fort of the world and the ninth level the Castle of the world. There is also one special level at the end of each world, unlocked if the player gets 100 points at the end of all the other levels of the world. The player is given 100 points for the level if the player collects all the 20 Red Coins, the 5 Smiley Flowers and 30 Smiley Flowers. There is also one Character Coin in each level, which can only be collected if the baby on the Character Coin is the one Yoshi is holding. These do not contribute towrads the 100 points, though collecting a all Character Coin of the world will unlock each level's Extra level.

In any given level the goal is to reach the GOAL! Ring with the baby, and pass it off to the next Yoshi.

Yoshi - Red Red Yoshi Appears in the ninth level of each world, so, the Castle of the world. Also carries Baby Luigi during the final battle.
Yoshi - Black Black Yoshi Appears in the special level of each world.
Yoshi - White White Yoshi Appears in the extra level of each world.

Yoshi's Transformations

Upon entering a Whirly Gate, the Yoshi is led to a course and transforms into different things. Once he is transformed, he must go through a small course that uses the new ability, while watching out for the timer and collecting clocks to replenish it. At the end of the section, there is one or more rings that, if touched, Yoshi turns back to normal and leaves the place.

Babies

The multiple babies return from Yoshi's Island DS. When Yoshi reaches a Stork Stop, he can switch out babies to use, which grant him different abilities to access different areas. Unlike Yoshi's Island DS, where some babies like Baby Wario and Baby Bowser could only be used in certain levels, when a baby is first recruited that can be used in any level.

Levels

The main hub of the game is one new island called Dino Dino Island that is divided into 8 worlds. Each world have 10 levels: 7 normal levels, 1 Fort, 1 castle and 1 secret level that is discovered after get all the thirty Stars, twenty Red Coins, one Character Coin and five Smiley Flowers at each level of the specific world).

Items and Objects

Item/Object Description
Red Egg A Red Egg functions as a normal Yoshi egg, but it can only rebound off a wall once. If a Red Egg hits an enemy it will cause two stars to appear.
Yellow Egg A Yellow Egg is an that functions as a normal Yoshi egg, but it can rebound off walls only twice (if it rebounds once, it becomes a Red Egg). If a Yellow Egg hits an enemy it will cause a coin to appear.
Yoshi Egg When Yoshi ducks after stuffing an enemy in its mouth, the Yoshi creates Yoshi eggs. Egg Block and a few other objects also give Yoshi eggs. Yoshi can throw eggs to defeat enemies, destroy gravel, hit switches and activate Winged Clouds. Yoshi Eggs can be rebounded off walls three times, but only if he is carrying certain babies, such as Baby Mario. When the eggs rebound from walls, from every rebound, they change from green to yellow to red. A Yoshi can carry a maximun of 7 eggs.
Mega Eggdozer A Mega Eggdozer is the massive Yoshi Eggs that Yoshis can use by swallowing giant enemies and use them to break walls or obstacles. Mega Eggdozers will replace all the eggs which the Yoshi is carrying, and will also disable its Flutter Jump. When a Mega Eggdozer comes into contact with something unbreakable, it turns yellow and then goes the other way. If this happens one more time, it turns red and finally comes off screen after another hit.
Metal Eggdozer They are metallic versions of the Mega Eggdozer that Yoshis can use by swallowing a bigger metalic enemies and can use them to break walls or obstacles. Unlike Mega Eggdozers, Yoshis cannot earn additional lives from the destruction a Metal Eggdozer causes. Metal Eggdozers will also reduce the Yoshi's jump height. When a Metal Eggdozer comes into contact with something unbreakable, it turns yellow and then goes the other way. If this happens one more time, it turns red and finally comes off screen after another hit.
Super Green Watermelon If a Yoshi eats the Super Green Watermelon, Yoshi can spit seeds. Ukikis have many Super Green Watermelons, some half-eaten, which only let a Yoshi spit out half as many seeds as a full melon. Ukikis use the watermelons to spit seeds. The seeds have the same effect on enemies as an egg.
Super Red Watermelon Super Red Watermelons (also called a Fire Watermelon) are hot and fiery red watermelons (with red skin, red flesh, and black seeds). If a Yoshi eats this Fruit, it will allow him to shoot Fire three times, to burn enemies and to melt Ice Blocks.
Super Blue Watermelon Super Blue Watermelons (also called an Ice Watermelon) are cold and frozen blue Watermelons (with blue skin, red flesh, and black seeds). If a Yoshi eats this Fruit, it will allow him to shoot Ice three times, to freeze enemies (which can then be smashed to pieces).
Flutter Wings The Flutter Wings are a Power-Up that transforms Yoshi into Winged Yoshi and allows him to flight freely on the stage instead of do fluttering. If hit by an enemy, he looses the Power-Up an looses the Baby (that becomes protected by the bubble). It appears at moments that Yoshi can't continue the stage walking, like on bottomless pits, lava, cold water or poisoned water. It also appears at the battle against Demon-Wing the Flutter King that occurs in the air.
Golden Flutter Wings A power-up that only appears after Yoshi loses seven lives in a level that is not completed. Mr. Pipe gives Yoshi this power-up and grants him to fly (like the normal Flutter Wings) and also also gives Yoshi invincibility. These Wings do not let Yoshi fall in a bottomless pit or die at lava. When Yoshi completes a level with Golden Flutter Wings, it appears on the level data, meaning that the player must complete it without the wings. The player can't access the W8-Bowser's Castle if Yoshi completed a level with the Flutter Wings.
Yoshi Star When a Yoshi collects it, he turns into Super Yoshi and gives invincibility to the Babies and Yoshi for a short period of time and Yoshi is able to walk on walls and speed up. If Yohi gets 3 Yoshi Stars in sequence Yoshi gets the power to blast through enemies and walls. The effects wear off after a short while, though Yoshi can maintain them by collect more Stars.
Coin Coins are scattered throughout the game's levels. Every hundred coins collected gives Yoshi an extra life.
Red Coin Red Coins act the same as regular gold coins, but give Yoshi 5 coins in one. It is a collectible that increases the score at the end of the level. All twenty need to be collected for the maximum score.
Character Coin These coins are hidden in a level, and a Yoshi must have a specific baby to collect them.
Smiley Flower A flower is a collectible that increases the score at the end of the level. All five need to be collected for the maximum score.
Smiley Star Smiley Stars increase the time that a baby is protected in the bubble when they are knocked off of Yoshi's back. They contribute to the score given at the end of the level. Thirty need to be collected for a maximum score.
Expansion Block An Expansion Block is a block that grows bigger when a Yoshi hits it.
Egg Block An Egg Block gives Yoshi an egg if he hits it when he has less than six eggs.
Egg-Plant These flowers normally spit out normal Yoshi Eggs. They are very common and appear in almost every level. They spit out Yoshi Eggs one at a time, but if a Yoshi Ground Pounds near one, the plant will either shoot out several at once or start shooting them out more quickly. The Yoshi can also lick the eggs to catch them. Since the Yoshi can only carry six eggs each, the Egg-Plant won't produce more eggs anymore until the Yoshi uses one of the Yoshi Eggs on something.
Chomp Rock Chomp Rocks are round stones that look like Chain Chomps.
Winged Cloud When a Winged Cloud is hit with an egg it will either create a pathway for Yoshi to use, give Smiley Stars, give a Smiley Flower or an extra life.
Goal Roulette It is found at the end of every level (except for Castles and Fortresses), acting as the goal point. The goal roulette is a circle consisting of all the flowers the player collected in that level and blue dots. When a Yoshi jumps through the goal roulette and passes one of the babies to the next Yoshi, it will start spinning slower and slower. After a few seconds, the goal roulette will stop spinning and land on either a blue dot or on a flower. If it lands on a blue dot, nothing happens and the player continues to the scoreboard and then the next level. However, if the roulette stops on a flower, the player gets five Medals when it goes to the scoreboard. If the player missed a flower in the stage, the matching spot in the goal roulette will not bloom; landing on one of these flower buds has the same result as landing on a blue dot.
Medal Medals can be received if the ball on the goal roulette stops on a Smiley Flower. The number of medals Yoshi will get depends on the number of flowers he collected when playing the level. Five medals is the maximum for a single level run, but the player can replay the level to get the world maximum of 30. 10 Medals give the player a 1-UP, 20 Medals give the player a 1-UP three times, and 30 Medals give the player a vehicle challenge level on Vehicle Challenge Mode.
Middle Ring he Middle Ring is the checkpoint in each level. When a Yoshi goes through it, if it dies in the level it will be returned to the Middle Ring. The Middle Ring also contributes ten Smiley Stars to the star total.
Key Keys are objects that can unlock certain doors. They can be found in some levels when they are required.
Stork Stop Stork Stops allow Yoshi to switch between babies. They're very easy to find and are usually placed where the player needs them.
Message Block Message Blocks are special blocks that give hints when hit to help the player past a certain point in the level or something else.
Whirly Gate When Yoshi enters a Whirly Gate, he transforms into one of the transformations in the game. The transformation he gets when he enters the door depends on the symbol above the door depicting a sketch of the Yoshi's Form.
