Final Smash Wonderful Forever/Unite Black

Wonder Black makes his first appearance as a playable character to the Super Smash Bros. franchise in Super 5mash Bros. 5. Wonder Black is a rather technical fighter that uses bombs for attacks. His bombs deal high damage and have a good blast radius but his melee powers are severely lacking not to mention slow. Aesthetically, he appears as his model from The Wonderful 101


Wonder Black is a complex character that utilizes various explosions to deal tremendous amounts of damage. Due to his small size, he is a hard target but is the lightest Wonderful One. In addition, he lacks powerful melee attacks and has poor punching and kicking abilities. However, his explosions deal large amounts of damage and has a wide radius. In addition, His Unite Bomb can slow down time making him a very technical fighter. His attacks do great knockback and are very powerful but he can be at risk when entered into close combat. He doesn't have the necessary tools to deal with close range fighters so he should stay in his zone and use his explosions to his advantage. Wonder Black's Unite Bombs can slow down time within it's blast radius and charging his attacks increases the duration just slightly.


Move Set

Name Damage Description
Neutral Attack Wonder Jab, Wonder Jab, Wonder Combo, Bomb Blast 1.5%, 1%, 6%, 10% Wonder Black punches, then kicks, and then can deliver a series of bomb blasts that hit the opponent. The bomb blasts do very little knockback but will cause it at high percentages before the finisher connects. The finisher is an even larger bomb blast.
Forward Tilt Wonder Bomber 8.5% Wonder Black takes a small bomb and chucks it slightly forward; blasting in front of him.
Up Tilt Wonder Uppercut 2% Wonder Black readies his attack, pauses, and then performs an upward slash that has poor reach and average knockback.
Down Tilt Wonder Heel 3.5% Wonder Black, pauses, crouches, and kicks forward along the ground.
Dash Attack Wonder Bomber 14% (core), 10% (outer) Wonder Black pauses briefly and then dashes forward quickly and tosses a bomb behind him. He then continues running an then screeches to a stop. The bomb has a slight delay that will explode 2.5 seconds after he throws.
Forward Smash Unite Smash 26% (charged core), 23% (uncharged core) 22% (outer charged), 17% (uncharged) Wonder Black charges his attack and drops his Unite Bomb in front of him. The size of the radius and the damage is dependent on how long it was charged. When it explodes, it slows down time by 2.5x (charged) and deals continuous fie damage.
Up Smash Unite Launcher 23% (charged), 17% (uncharged) Wonder Black charges the attack and then throws a small Unite Bomb that has much more distance than his regular bombs. It will fly into the air about 10 Wonder Black bodies away before detonating. It is an unique Unite Bomb as it meteors airborne opponents while slowing them down by 1.5x briefly.
Down Smash Unite Mine 26% (charged), 20% (uncharged) Wonder Black crouches low to the ground and plants an Unite Mine. When it connects with an opponent, they explode along with a time radius.
Neutral Aerial Wonder Boom 10% (sweet), 3% (sour) Wonder Black kicks forward but has attached an explosive to his foot. It does damage at the start of the explosive.
Forward Aerial Wonder Hook 3% Wonder Black slashes forward; pausing slightly and delivering a weak punch.
Back Aerial Wonder Reverse 2% Wonder Black reaches backward and slams his back Bomb behind his; dealing damage. It has lag in the beginning.
Up Aerial Wonder Flip 4% Wonder Black flip kicks his opponent upwards; it deals below average knockback and has horrible reach.
Down Aerial Wonder Meteor 13% (aerial), 18% (ground) Wonder Black pauses briefly in mid-air and then throws down his bomb which will explode upon impact. IT meteors airborne opponents.
Grab --- --- Wonder Black grabs the opponent with two hands.
Pummel Wonder Knee 1% Wonder Black knees the opponent. Weak but very quick.
Forward Throw Wonder Bash 4% (per hit 3 hits) Wonder Black takes the opponent and slams them into the ground three times with the third time spiking opponents up with an explosion.
Back Throw Wonder Toss 2% Wonder Black simply tosses the opponent behind him.
Up Throw Wonder Launch 4% Wonder Black throws the opponent upwards.
Down Throw Wonder Slammer 1% (throw) 10% (bomb) Wonder Black slams the opponent down and then slams a bomb down onto the opponent; causing zero damage to Wonder Black but tossing both him and the opponent into the air.
Floor Attack (front/back) Wonder Spin 4% Wonder Black gets up and spins while kicking like he is break dancing.

He throws a single bomb forward. Charging it will determine the size, distance, and power of the Unite Bomb. It will create a blast radius field that will slow down opponents movements but not projectiles. Charging it will increase the field's size and duration. It can slow down opponents up to 3x.
Custom 1 Unite Special Bomb 0% Instead of slowing down opponents, it slows down projectiles up to 4x.
Custom 2 Unite Double Bomb 15% (charged core), 10% (uncharged core), 13% (charged edge), 7% (uncharged edge) Much weaker but creates two blast radius; one within another. The larger radius slows down time by 1.5x and then smaller radius slows down by 2.5x.
Side Special Unite Ball 10% (charged), 5% (uncharged) Wonder Black and the Wonderful Ones will be condensed into a large all that grows in size depending on how much it was charged. Releasing will propel it forward; dealing damage. It also increases the speed. It faster for Wonder Black due to his light weight.
Custom 1 Unite Spike Ball 14% (charged), 9% (uncharged) It creates spike which deal more damage but is slower than the default.
Custom 2 Unite Bouncing Ball 7% (charged), 4% (uncharged), 11% (bounce charged), 8% (uncharged) Much like the default but, instead it will bounce along instead of rolling. Charging it increases the size, damage, and number of bounces with 4 being the max. Doesn't bounce when it mid-air but simply propels itself forward.
Up Special Unite Chain 10% (charged), 7% (uncharged) Wonder Black will call the Wonderful Ones to form a chain. Charging it increases the length of the chain. It can be used to hit opponents as well as grab onto the ledge. Has great recovery distance.
Custom 1 Unite Boost Chain style="border-color:Black;text-align:center;"12% (charged), 8% (uncharged) Much shorter than the default but will boost the player slightly upwards when performing it. It also deals less damage.
Custom 2 Unite Rapid Chain 0% Much faster to charge and has the same length as the default but doesn't damage opponents.
Down Special Unite Guts 3X (charged), 2.5x (uncharged) Wonder Black charges the attack and can cover himself with the Wonderful Ones with a Black gel. It can reflect opponents projectiles and bounce opponents away to touches it. It grows weaker and smaller with every projectile/contact. Charging it increases it's strength and duration. It reflects more strongly for Wonder Black.
Custom 1 Unite Spike Guts 4.5% (projectile), 6% (contact) It is unable to reflect projectiles but, when attacked, it will throw out spikes all around it which travel for a little distance. It does more damage with the projectile.
Custom 2 Unite Medi Guts 0% Instead of reflecting projectiles, it transfers it to energy and will heal Wonder Black. It can be canceled with a melee attack.

Special Custom Set B

Neutral Special Unite Trigger 0% Wonder Black unlocks an unique ability that charges a force field around him as well as a second one that forms to his body. He moves in normal speed but anything else, including opponents and projectiles, are reduced to 2x speed. He is unable to perform any attacks including recovery moves save for movement.
Custom 1 Unite Greater Trigger 1.5% (per hit) Same attack but takes longer to charge but creates a larger radius and does damage to the opponent as long as they are inside it.
Custom 2 Unite Distant Trigger 0% It doesn't deal damage but can be charged to increase the distance it is deployed. It can also be slightly influenced by pressing the control stick.
Side Special Unite Boomerang 4% (per hit charged), 3% (per hit uncharged) Wonder Black charges the attack and transforms into a boomerang by calling on the Wonderful Ones. Charging the attack causes it to become bigger and stronger but does not lengthen the travel distance. It does multiple hits as it goes forward. Fastest form and most powerful.
Custom 1 Unite Gale Boomerang 7% (charged), 4% (uncharged) It only does one hit which tosses opponents upwards after it passes through. It also has a vacuum effect.
Custom 2 Unite Shock Boomerang 4% (charged), 2% (uncharged) Much weaker but it causes hitstun and carries opponents as it goes through. Once it finishes, it leaves the opponent dazed. It causes opponents to go into a short helpless if used as an aerial.
Up Special Unite Rocket 6% Wonder Black will form the Unite Rocket through the Wonderful Ones. Holding down the special button causes it to fly heights and faster until it explodes; causing Wonder Black to fall back down. The explosion does damage but only when maxed out. It has th eghihest and fastest recovery of all of the Wonderful Ones.
Custom 1 Unite Rapid Rocket 0% Has more traveling distance but doesn't deal damage.
Custom 2 Unite Big Rocket 8%, 2% (Wonder Black) Much slower and shorter traveling distance but larger explosion that deals more damage but also damages Wonder Black with 3%.
Down Special Unite Tombstone 3% (charged descent), 2% (uncharged descent), 4% (impact charged), 2% (impact uncharged) Wonder Black will call upon the Wonderful Ones to form a tombstone. Charging it increases the size and durability. If performed in the air, releasing it will cause the tombstone to descend to the ground very quickly; dealing damage.
Custom 1 Unite Burying Tombstone 4% (charged descent), 2% (uncharged descent), 5% (impact charged), 2% (impact uncharged) Weaker version of the default but it will bury grounded opponents or meteor aerial opponents.
Custom 2 Unite Launch Tombstone 5% (charged ascent), 4% (uncharged ascent), 10% (blast charged), 6% (blast uncharged) Reversed version of the default wise Wonder Black will launch upwards as the tombstone. Charging increases the distance and damage. At the end, it will explode dealing damage. It has the most traveling distance.

Final Smash

Final Smash 1 Wonderful Forever 4% (per hit center), 2.5% (per hit edge) Wonder Black calls upon the powers of the Wonderful Ones where they form a large W at the top of the stage. It then fires a ray of energy that can be controlled by using the control stick. It deals multiple hits as long as the ray connects with the opponent. It does more damage in the center of the ray compared to it's edges.
Final Smash 2 Unite Black 28% (Unite Bomb) Wonder Black will call upon the power of the Wonderful Ones who form a gigantic Wonder Black. He will use his Unite Bomb to create devastating explosive attacks. He also raises a huge time radius that slows down time in the sphere he erected.

"Wonder Black is apart of the CENTINELS and is a member of the Wonderful Ones. One a quiet hero that never speaks his mind, he is a genius with an IQ over 300 despite being only 11 years old. Wonder Black is good friends with Wonder Green as they share many of the same hobbies though the nature of their relationship is largely unknown due to Wonder Black not being really audible. It's a small wonder how Wonder Green can actually understand him! He loves to play video games, even while on missions. He created his Time Bombs that can slow down time! I wish I had these while I was developing this game!"

"Unite Chain is a unique Unite Morph that allows the Wonderful One to come together as a group and make a a huge tent as a way to heal themselves of injuries. While it could have been, this Unite Morph does not appear as one of their special attacks in Super Smash Bros. but their Custom Set A Down Special, Unite Medi Guts does actually heal the Wonderful One so I guess it was the studio being creative and trying some new things out! Maybe this might appear in some form in the future? In certainly was considered in the drafting period. Enough that we made a model of it...wait...maybe Wonder Black hacked out files and found this as it was considered classified."

"The Space Pirates are led by the prince of the traveling comet, Rhullo, Prince Vorkken. He has sworn vengeance against the GEATHJERK for slaughtering her people and destroying her kingdom. The Space Pirates are 100 strong and have sworn loyalty to Price Vorkken. They are capable of becoming incorporated into his Unite Morphs much like the Wonderful Ones. However, his brand of Unite ability is caused Unify thought they share similar traits. Those who the Prince conquers are then forced into servitude in order to grow the Prince's power and used as a massive army."

"Wonder Black may have an IQ over 300 but he is still a boy...wait...that sounds bad. Wonder Black is a boy genius and that obviously shows but, as boys will be boys, he sometimes likes to relax and not be concerned about his studies and saving the world. When that happens (and it's rarely), he likes to kick it back in his room in just his underwear. The heat from all of his computers and electrical devices mist keep him warm during the colder months."

"The Wonderful Ones are anything but not dramatic. Everything they do is rather over the top and self-promoting! This is especially the case with the Final Smash, Wonderful Forever. Every Wonderful One has access to it upon breaking the Smash Ball. They call upon the power of the Wonderful Ones to create a gigantic....yep...W. Get it Wonderful? Wonder Black? The Wonderful 101? When activated, it releases a controllable ray of wonder that can be used to damage opponents and send them flying. It also plays music from The Wonderful 101. Once it finihes, the Wonderful disperse and returns to whatever they were doing before.

"One of the most powerful Unite Morphs OF ALL TIME! Unite Big calls upon, yet again, the power of the Wonderful Ones to form a gigantic version of Wonder Black. Just in case you wondering how Wonder Black would look big, well, there you have it. While in this form, Wonder Black will literally bombard the entire stage in bombs, bombs, and more bombs! That is pretty crazy! If that wasn't enough, he also causes the time to warp around him and slow down to a crawl making this an even more powerful Final Smash!"

Reveal Trailer

"A Wonderful Intervention" Time: 4:20 Scene: A bustling metropolis

The reveal trailer starts off an aerial view of bustling metropolis in the afternoon. Helicopters buzz overhead, cars are honking, and every thing seems sunny and bright. Suddenly an explosion rises up from the north section and a roar is heard.

The scene then cuts to the middle of the explosion. Everything is covered in smoke, fire, and ash while scared civilians run about; unsure what to make with this maddness. From the smoke steps out Mario, Link, Pit, Samus, Bayonetta, Marth, Lucario, and Matthew who all get into their battle stances while awaiting the terror that awaits them. From the smoke, an unearthly beast roars and rising out from its a gigantic Giga Bowser. Giga Bowser continues to grow and grow until he is towering over all them; blocking out the sun. Mario narrows his eyes and jumps forward but is instantly slapped into a nearby building; crashing into it. Link, Marth, and Matthew all charge forward with swords drawn but are flattened when Giga Bowser steps on top of them; driving them into the pavement. Samus appears right next to Giga Bowser's head and fires a missile which doesn't do a thing. Bowser chomps down on Samus and then spits her off causing her to fly off into the sky.

Bayonetta and Lucario charges forth; dodging the attacks from Giga Bowser and jump forward but get slammed away from his tail causing them to be launched down the street; skidding on the pavement. Pit looks absolutely terrified and looks to Mario. The scene changes to Mario lying in a rubble of the building. The scene then changes to Link, Marth, and Matthew embedded into the pavement. The scene then switches to Samus burnt to a crisp while crumbled into a bus stop. It then shifts to Bayonetta and Lucario; laying unconscious in the street. Giga Bowser roars triumphantly and steps towards Pit. Pit steps back; frightening and frozen.

Suddenly, an announcers voices can be heard with both Pit and Giga Bowser unsure to where it is coming from:

"When the world is in danger, there is only one superhero to call! They come in a variety of colors but their leader is RED! Armed with the CENTINEL suits and the Unite Morph ability, they pound evil into space dust! They are the..."

A flash of red then flashes forward and punches Giga Bowser causing him to fall down. He tries to get up but another red blur punches him in his gut; causing Giga Bowser to roar in pain. The red blur shout out:

"Unite Hand!"

Pit feels himself start to be lifted from the ground to his surprise and sees the other fighters also lifted from the ground. They are absorbed into the air. The camera pans from the huge hand that has formed and to the person wielding it; showing Wonder Red.

He jumps high into the air and comes crashing back down with his Unite Hand stretched out. Giga Bowser gets up and is about to fight back but the attack slams the Unite Hand into Giga Bowser. Knocking him into the air and causing him to land into several skyscrapers. Angrily, he roars and continues to grow in size while gathering power. He grows even larger and dashes forward slamming his fist and kicking Wodner Red; causing him to lose his powers and the earlier fighters are separated from his Unite Hand.

Wonder Red tries to get up but he is unable to and collapses from his injuries. Pit looks on as Giga Bowser approaches them. However, once again a mysterious voice is heard:

"While one Wonderful One may be strong on their own, they have the support from not only the Wonderful One team but from the people they protect as well! This creates an effective and powerful fighting team!" Suddenly, in the air a voice is heard:

"Unite WHIP!"

Giga Bowser is thrown to the ground with a whip wrapped around his head. He tries to get up but another voice is heard: "Unite GUN!!!"

A bullet knocks Giga Bowser off his feet and send shim tumbling along the ground. He goes to stand up up another voice is heard:

"Unite Hammer!!!!"

Giga Bowser is slammed down to the ground by a huge hammer; leveling him. Once again, from the air comes another voices:

"Unite Claws!!!"

Giga Bowser is slashed over and over as he lays on the ground; roaring in pain. From the shadows comes a small, whisper:

"Unite Bomb.."

Giga Bowser is blasted high into the air; spiraling as he goes. As he is thrown upwards, he looks to his right and a blur blur appears:


This attack launches Giga Bowser high into the air until he becomes a speck. The scene then cuts to Wonder Red standing up slightly with Pit looked up amazed. Standing around them are the following:

Wonder Blue, Wonder Pink, Wonder Yellow, Wonder Green, Wonder White, and Wonder Black.

The mysterious voice, the announcer, says:

"No job is impossible for The Wonderful Ones!!!"

The scene then shifts to game play footage of the Wonderful Ones:

  • It shows Wonder Red, Wonder Pink, Wonder Blue, Wonder Yellow, Wonder Green, Wonder White, and Wonder Black on the Blossom City stage. They all do their "I'm Wonder ..." taunt.
  • Shows Wonder Red using an uncharged Unite Hand on Wonder Blue who is knocked away but returns and does a fully charged Unite Sword; blasting the opponent away.
  • It shows Wonder Pink running and kicking the Link into the air; dealing damage.
  • It then cuts to Wonder Yellow hammering Donkey Kong with his Forward and Down Smash attacks. However, he is blasted away by Wonder Black who is playing on his video games system.
  • It then shows Bowser running away while the Wonderful Ones chase him.
  • It then shows Wonder Green using his Unite Gun to blast Samus far away but is then beat senseless through quick attacks by Wonder Pink.
  • It then shows Shiek running forward but is stopped dead by Wonder White who deliver various quick attacks to Shiek.
  • It shows Mario and Wonder Red; standing side by side while in their fighting animations.
  • It then shows very quick videos of each Wonderful One activating their neutral specials.
  • It then shows them fighting against Bowser who grabs the Smash Ball and becomes Giga Bowser. He roars triumphantly but then, suddenly, Wonder Red calls out "Unite Red!"

The scene changes to an animation sequence where Wonder Red begins to grow taller and taller; becoming the Unite Big version of himself. Giga Bowser looks absolutely terrified and whimpers slightly before being punched and launched into the stratosphere.

The Wonderful Ones separate and then the announcer is heard again:

"For the first time ever! The Wonderful Ones!"

They all then strike a dramatic pose. This cuts into the logo sequence for Super Smash Bros. 5.

Then the final sequence then shows Wonder Red in his Space Pirate costume which then pans down showing Wonder Pink in her Alice Pink costume, Unmasked Blue, Space Pirate Wonder Yellow, Unmasked Green and White, and Space Pirate Black.


  • The Wonderful Ones are consideBlack both individual characters as well as alternative costumes by the development team. According to director Masahiro Sakurai "You can say the Wonderful Ones are the product of mixing Bowser Jr. and the Koopalings with the Mii Fighter. We sort of went overboard. :laughs:
