Wiggler(ハナチャン, hana-chan) is part of the Wigglers, a recurring enemy species in the Super Mario series, and appears in most games with such role. Wiggler makes his debut appearance in Super Mario World. While he may seem like a harmless, happy guy, he can actually suprise you if you attack him. Wiggler tends to switch personalities from calm to very mad. This personality change also shows in this game as part of his moveset.

Wiggler is a rather large fighter, and one of the tallest ones in the game. Wiggler's size makes him a rather difficult opponent to KO even at high damage percentages. Wiggler comes with a multiple-punching neutral that allows him to constantly increase damage on an opponent. Wiggler's most powerful attacks are his Smash attacks, having strong momentum cancelling and one of the best endurance potentials in the game. Wiggler has a variety of other KO potential attacks, but none of those really include his Special Attacks. One of Wiggler's biggest flaws however, is his speed at both attacking and moving. His air game is also very poor and he falls very quickly when sent flying off the stage.

His poor air game and high weight are compensated by his great recovery. Despite his size, Wiggler can jump and mid-jump highly, and his up special allows him to turn into his Flutter transformation to fly for a brief time. Wiggler's grabbing game is decent, he can grab from afar by extending himself, and his throws are powerful but slow to perform. Additionally, whenever Wiggler reaches more than 50% of damage, he turns red and mad, which allows him to slightly increase damage and moving speed.

Unlocking Methods

  • Play 40 matches as Bowser or Bowser Jr.
  • Complete Tower of Smash with all default Mario characters.
  • Have him join you in Clash of Dimensions.

If any of these methods are cleared, except for the third one, the player has to fight Wiggler in a match, in 3D World.

Ground attacks

  • Neutral attack - Wiggler punches forwards. If the button is held, Wiggler will keep punching multiple times. Very good damage increasing.
  • Dash attack - Wiggler gets on all his legs and slams forwards. Does horizontal knockback.
  • Forward tilt - Wiggler punches with both hands forwards.
  • Up tilt - Wiggler slightly wings his head.
  • Down tilt - Wiggler crouches slightly and kicks with one of his feet on the ground.

Smash Attacks

  • Forward smash - Wiggler extends and swings his head with big force. Does high knockback.
  • Up smash - Wiggler swings his head similarly to his up special, but with much more force.
  • Down smash - Wiggler spins on all legs, has excellent range and does vertical knockback.

Aerial attacks

  • Neutral aerial - Wiggler kicks with his first two feet.
  • Forward aerial - Wiggler moves his latter body segmenst forwards and kicks.
  • Back aerial - Swings his latter body segments backwards.
  • Up aerial - Wiggler swings his head.
  • Down aerial - Wiggler does a ground pound attack. Has chances of burying opponents into the ground.

Grabs and throws

  • Forward throw - Wiggler spins and throws his opponent forwards.
  • Back throw - Wiggler holds his opponent, spins with them and throws them backwards.
  • Up throw - Wiggler gets on all his legs, puts his opponent on his back and injuries them with his body segments before sending them flying upwards.
  • Down throw - Wiggler places the opponent on the floor and body slams them.
  • Aerial Grab: Wiggler grabs his opponent and covers them with all of his body segments, causing constant damage as they fall. Body slams them when landing.

Special Moves

  • Neutral Special - Wiggler Bury: Wiggler can charge this move. He prepares his head and then slams himself onto the floor, burying any opponent under Wiggler into it. The burying status lasts longer depending on how much Wiggler charged the move.
    • Custom 1 - ???:
    • Custom 2 - ???:
  • Side Special - Squiggler: Wiggler summons a Squiggler, throwing it forwards. If it catches an opponent, the Squiggler slow downs them. Opponents can get rid of the Squiggler by smashing buttons. If the Squiggler doesn't catch anyone, it will follow Wiggler and jump onto the first opponent Wiggler attacks afterwards. Wiggler can summon up to two Squigglers at a time, but an opponent is only affected by one Squiggler.
    • Custom 1 - ???:
    • Custom 2 - ???:
  • Up Special - Flutter: Wiggler grows butterfly wings and ascends slowly as a Flutter. The player can control Wiggler as he flies, but it doesn't last for long and he is put in a helpless state when his wings disappear. Touching Wiggler while he is flying does mild damage.
    • Custom 1 - ???:
    • Custom 2 - ???:
  • Down Special - Maple Treetrunk: Wiggler summons a little autumnal tree in front of him, which sends flying upwards any opponent standing there. Depending on Wiggler's damage percentage, the tree's size changes. If he is not damaged, the tree will be very small, if he is 50% or near, it's gonna be medium-sized, and if he is more than 100% the tree is gonna be large. The bigger the size, the more they are sent flying.
    • Custom 1 - ???:
    • Custom 2 - ???:
  • Riot Move - Mad Rampage: Wiggler slams the opponent into the ground, burying them and leaving them helpless. He then rams himself on the victim and sends them flying.
  • Final Smash - Caterpilar's Anger: Wiggler gets mad and grows to a bigger size. Then he starts running around the stage and the player can control the direction he runs into. In this status, Wiggler runs on all legs (meaning his fighting hands turn into feet as well) and he is able to run under platforms and over walls, as well as stage boundaries without it being a KO. Running into opponents will either send them flying off-stage or bury them into the ground, dealing good damage in both cases.

If Wiggler's damage percentage is under 50%:

  • Wiggler lies down and stars sleeping, before jumping nervously.
  • Wiggler gets on all legs and runs happily in a circle.
  • Makes his flower spin and grow in size, laughing happily.

If Wiggler's damage percentage is higher than 50% and he's mad:

  • Wiggler becomes agitated and starts moving uncontrollably.
  • Wiggler gets on all legs, expels furious smoke from his nose as he prepares his feet as if he was about to run.
  • Wiggler jumps three times furiously as he makes complaining sounds.

On-Screen Appearance

  • 1st Entrance: A flower emerges from the ground and Wiggler pops out of it.
  • 2nd Entrance: Flies and lands on the stage as a Flutter, then turns back to Wiggler.

Sunshine Wiggler's entrances are the same, but he performs them furiously.

An rock remix of the victory fanfare from Super Mario Bros. plays while he does one of the following animations:

  • Wiggler starts waving at the viewer happily.
  • Wiggler calls two Squigglers and they start wiggling.
  • Wiggler takes a nap, as a sleeping bubble comes out of his nose.

As Sunshine Wiggler:

  • Makes a cool pose, smiles evily as he expels furious smoke.
  • Gets on all legs and expels smoke furiously.
  • Gets really mad and runs in circles the whole winning screen.

Wiggler shares his victory fanfare with Bowser and Bowser Jr..
