Villagers are humanoid characters that act as the customizable avatar characters of the Animal Crossing series. While their shirts have been customizable through every iteration of the Animal Crossing series, other games have added in additional options such as hairstyles, shorts, shoes, and skin tones.
Villagers have appeared outside the Animal Crossing series, with prominent appearances in Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. While Villagers outside of the Animal Crossing titles are generally not customizable, they often take the appearances of generic villagers used in Animal Crossing promotional material.
Six Villagers are available to be played as in the base game of Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival 2, with their appearances based upon several promotional artworks from Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Additionally, the default male villager from Super Smash Bros. can be played as should one scan his amiibo figure, and players may also choose to import up to four of their Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Happy Home Designer characters.
The Villagers act as the most basic of characters and are always chosen by the computer players. Additionally, they can also be used by a player should they not have enough amiibo figures.
