Venom is an  2012 sandbox-action game by Clover Entertainment. The game was developed with the help of Rockstar Games, the company that created Grand Theft Auto. It was be released for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U and PC on October 30, 2012 in the USA, and as of February 21, 2013, it has sold 15 million copies worldwide. It is a spin-off of the recent Spider-Man reboot starring Venom. Unlike most Venom portrayals where he's a villain, here Venom is an anti-hero in this game. It will take place in the same continuity as The Amazing Spider-Man.

Story[]

A strange alien goo known as a Symbiote crash lands on Earth and uses a photographer at the Daily Bugle named Eddie Brock as its host. The Symbiote bonds with Eddie, thus turning him into Venom. Now, while being Venom, Eddie Brock must learn to control his newfound abilities and the Symbiote itself. However, a piece of Venom's DNA is taken to be used as a weapon by Oscorp. This plan goes horribly awry, creating a newer, stronger Symbiote. It escapes and bonds with a man named Cletus Kasady, forming Carnage. Carnage plans to invade the city with an army of Symbiotes from outer space so they can bond with millions of people and take over Earth, you must decide whether to save the city from Carnage and prevent the invasion as a hero, or be a villain, kill Carnage and take over the invasion. Will you choose the path of good, or the path of evil? The choice is YOURS!

Gameplay[]

Like most Spider-Man related games, Venom is an open-world sandbox game taking place in New York City. You take on the role of Venom, and you must decide whether to be a good guy or a bad guy. The city is fully destructible. The only objects that cannot be destroyed are the buildings. But everything else, from cars to lamp posts and bus stops, all can be destroyed and torn apart. Because Rockstar Games helped make the game, their rage Engine is used in the game, making the graphics and destructive effects highly realistic.

The path you choose is determined by your actions in the game. If you catch criminals, fight Carnage's Symbiotes, and battle other villains, like Sandman and The Green Goblin, you gain hero points, which you can also use to upgrade your Symbiote. On the other hand, if you cause destruction in the city, kill innocent civilians, and fight heroes like Spider-Man (yes even he is in the game at one point or another), you gain villain points, which can also be used to upgrade Venom.

Speaking of upgrades, you can increase the strength, agility, speed, health, and special meter. The Special Meter is used to activate Special Attacks you can unlock. Special Attacks can only be used if the Special Attack meter is full. But, as the game goes on, the meter will grow, and you can use them more than once at a time. If you are damaged and near death, you can restore some of your health by absorbing people's life force.

You can also go places faster by using your tendrils to swing across the city the same way Spider-Man uses webs to get around the city. You can also use objects in the environment to your advantage. You can lift cars and throw them at your enemies. You can also use lamp posts and trees as clubs. Your actions determine everything in the game. They determine different paths, different friends, different enemies, and a different ending.

The Emergency Response System[]

The ERS is the government's efforts to team up with SHIELD to take down any threats. Cause lots of destruction and damage and the Emergency Response Team, which consists of SHIELD agents and the military mostly, will be mobilized to take you down. Fight them off, and the threat will then be neutralized and you can go back to your rampage until you cause enough damage to trigger another Response Team, and the cycle continues.

Characters[]

Name Image Description
Venom
Venom character
Venom is the main protagonist of the game. He is a Symbiote, a sentient alien, with a gooey, almost liquid-like form that requires a host, usually human, to bond with for its survival, as with real world symbiotes, and to whom it endows enhanced powers. When the Venom Symbiote bonds with a human, that new dual-life form refers to itself as Venom. In the game, his host is Eddie Brock. Venom has superhuman strength and can absorb people's life force.
Eddie Brock
Eddie Brock
Eddie Brock is a journalist who exposes the identity of a serial killer only for the real killer to be caught by Spider-Man, Brock having accused the wrong man. Disgraced and suicidal, Brock comes into contact with an alien Symbiote. The Symbiote bonds with Eddie and becomes Venom.
Carnage
Carnage
The main antagonist of the game, Carnage is the result of an experiment by Oscorp, which attempted to use Venom's DNA to create an ultimate weapon. It created Carnage, who escaped and bonded with the serial killer known as Cletus Kasady. He is more powerful than even Venom. Now, Carnage plans to unleash an army of Symbiotes from space onto Manhattan, and Venom must choose whether to stop Carnage from summoning the invasion, or kill Carange and take over.
Cletus Kasady
Kasady
Cletus Kasady is a psychopath and a homicidal sadist. Kasady had a troubled childhood: he killed his grandmother by pushing her down a flight of stairs. His mother then tried to kill Cletus, and was apparently beaten to the brink of death by Kasady's father, who received no defense from Kasady during his trial. As an orphan, Kasady was sent to the St. Estes Home for Boys, where his antisocial behavior made him the target of abuse from both the other orphans and the staff. Kasady gained revenge by murdering the disciplinarian administrator, and burning down the orphanage. He is the host for the Symbiote known as Carnage.
Spider-Man
Spider-Man 2
The web-slinging superhero, Spider-Man is a high school teenager named Peter Parker. He was bitten by a radioactive spider and became Spider-Man. Since then, Spider-Man has been protecting New York from several villains. He has the ability to climb up walls and shoot webs. He is enemies with Venom.

General Ross

General Ross
A general of the United States Army. While he focuses primarily on capturing the green monster known as The Incredible Hulk, he discovers Venom roaming the city and Venom has become Ross' secondary target.
Nick Fury
NICKFREAKINGFURY
Nick Fury is the director of S.H.I.E.L.D, a secret military law-enforcement agency that primarily focuses on superhuman threats. Nick Fury and SHIELD are being sent to hunt down Venom and kill him.
Black Widow
Black Widow
Also known by her real name Natasha Romanoff, Black Widow is not only an assassin, but she is also an undercover spy who works for SHIELD. She was recently assigned to kill both Venom AND Carnage.
War Machine
War Machine 1
James Rupert Rhodes, AKA War Machine, is Iron Man's best friend and his ally. War Machine's armor was created out of Iron Man's Mark II armor. It is heavily armed and can fly. Rhodey's relationship with Venom depends on what you do in the game. If you do primarily heroic things, he'll be your ally and help you stop Carnage. If you're a villain, he'll be your enemy and try to kill you.
