AKA The Top Ten Most Requested Characters That Won't Get Into Smash Bros. Based off posts on NeoGaf, fan-made realistic rosters, and Fantendo.

10. Toad[]

Toad is one of the more requested characters for the series, being rumored since Melee.

My question is though, why? In Super Mario Bros 2, he was stronger than Mario and could run fast, but was a terrible jumper. He otherwise was identical to Mario and the rest in that game with no special ability setting him apart. Even in his more recent playable appearances he's just a clone of Mario. In order for him to be in Super Smash Bros, he'd either have to be a clone or have his moveset based entirely off Super Mario Bros 2, and seeing how Nintendo barely talks about that, either way doesn't seem likely.

Besides, he's part of Peach's special moves anyway.

9. Cat Mario[]

Cat Mario

Cat Mario is just a stupid idea for a character.

I admit, he's got a few things I could see go into a move set but he's just literally Mario in a fur suit. I don't care how awesome he looks, that's all he is. You might as well make Tanooki Mario a character along with Hammer Mario.

8. Poo[]

Poo

Poo is from Earthbound, and I've seen him on a fair amount of rosters.

He'd be a clone of Ness for almost the same reasons as Toad. Aside from a few PK abilities Ness doesn't know, he's just the fourth member of your party. Even then, those abilities are just powered up versions of ones that Ness and Lucas already kind of have.

I could see one adding him for his martial arts background, but he doesn't really show any of that in gameplay. He could have a really cool final smash though, where that spirit mutilates a character, but I don't think Nintendo would go for that.

7. Banjo and Kazooie[]

Owned by Microsoft. Next.

Banjo-Kazooie

Seriously, next.

And no, Microsoft would rather drop dead than give permission to be used by Nintendo without some kind of deal involving the One.

6. Pichu[]

Spiky-eared Pichu

Why on earth would you want Pichu back? Melee even says he's the weakest character in the game. He's an absolute joke. Don't ask for him to come back, please, especially with the fact that we are limited to the power of the 3DS.

5. Zoroark[]

!Zoroark

"Sorastitch! What are you thinking? Zoroark is totally getting in, I can see it!"

Zoroark has almost no relevancy any more. His movie premiered in Japan, 2010 and Sakurai adds characters based off the anime. If anything Mewtwo and Genesect have better shots than Zoroark.

Not to mention it seems to me that the sole reason people want him in so bad is that he shares the body type of Mewtwo and Lucario. This is kind of faulty reasoning; a character included because his body looks similar to another? It would make sense based off the pattern that Brawl seemed to imply but Mewtwo seemed to be getting in whether Lucario was already in there or not but wasn't added due to time restrictions. As I stated before, he also has no relevancy, with his movie long since premiered and another one coming extremely soon, along with the dawn of a new generation of Pokemon. Basically Zoroark suffers from bad timing.

4. Bandana Dee[]

Waddle dee (Mario and Kirby)

Like Toad, this guy has only really shown to be different from the rest of the cast in one game. The other appearances he makes are cameos.

Sakurai has said he doesn't want to over-rep his series and I think the three we have right now is good enough. Admittely, he would be one of the first Smash characters to use a spear but other than that he doesn't have a ton going for him.

3. Shadow the Hedgehog[]

A second character from the Sonic series? Maybe during the Gamecube era but as of now Sega seems to put their full focus into making Sonic's gameplay (and only Sonic) the best it can possibly be. Shadow and the other characters sans Tails are being pushed aside for the time being. I admit, I actually really like Shadow but I think if Sega was going to push a second character it would be Tails.

That and he's not very different from Sonic in terms of looks and probably would get classified as a clone.

2. Pacman[]

PacmanLAPIS4

He doesn't have a lot going for him, honestly.

First off, Namco can't seem to get away from the tired gameplay of the original and that really does not owe itself a lot in terms of gameplay. Also, Namco doesn't seem to like him too much- it's telling when he's become more of an icon for Namco than an actual character. Sure, Smash could turn it around but it has to be Namco that does it. Namco has to ask Sakurai to make Pac-Man an actual character.

And besides, there's better Namco characters that can take his place like Lloyd and Heihachi Mishima.

1. Ghirahim[]

Ghirahim Second Battle

I dunno why, but this guy always manages to show up a lot more than I think he does in everybody's roster. It seems to make sense for people; after all in Brawl we got Twilight Princess Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf along with a stage.

Except we didn't get any Twilight Princess characters. Some speculated Zant (lol), Midna, and others. Nope.

Here, the Skyward Sword influence for Link and the others seems even less than Twilight Princess. Granted, we've only seen Link but he looks more like Twilight Princess' Link with some elements of Skyward Sword. Until we see Zelda, I'm going to assume the trend will continue. Ganondorf might look a smidgen similar to Ghirahim but I think that's where it basically ends.

There's still hope for this character but not a ton. I guess until Nintendo reveals Zelda or Ganondorf, I'm 80% positive Ghirahim isn't getting in.

Runner-Ups[]

  • Geno - Being owned by Square creates some problems; even if he wasn't he's still a small character in the vast scope of the Mario franchise...
  • King K.Rool - Nintendo seems to have forgotten him...
  • Mike Jones
