Fantendo - Game Ideas & More

Yes, it's been a week since the presentation, so I'm a bit late on this, but I wanted to express my opinions on the Switch based on it.

To be honest, I was blown away by the presentation and the Switch's unique way of working. It's definitely Nintendo and something that could completely transform the gaming world. But, it has its shortcomings as well.

The Good[]

The Joy-Cons are Awesome[]

When I saw the teaser video back in October, I didn't think much of the Joy-Cons. I just thought they were standard controllers with buttons on 'em with a unique twist - being able to be used in such interesting ways. I had no idea the motion controls and HD rumble and all that other fancy stuff was going in them! It's really cool, I'm not gonna lie! I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like it before, and it sounds amazing.

A Home Console on the Go[]

One of the Switch's primary functions is that it's a home console you can take with you wherever you want, whenever you want! It seems to have sufficient power, not exactly PS4 Pro power, but enough to play some pretty amazing games.

Awesome Games are Coming[]

Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade 2, Fire Emblem, must I go on? We have a lot of new games coming out for the Switch and many of them look incredible! Sure, they aren't all coming out on launch day, but several are quite close.

The Bad[]

The Prices are a Little High[]

$299.99, eh? That's...a bit much. When you realize how much stuff those Joy-Cons have though, it becomes a bit more understandable and it's not completely unforgivable, at least to me. The Pro Controller price is a bit WTF to me, however.

Lack of Launch Titles[]

Only five or six games are confirmed for launch. Nintendo has stated that there will be more reveals through February, so there actually might be more. But for now, it's left to just those six and it's rather disappointing.

The Joy-Cons' features may be underused[]

While cool, I doubt the motion controls and HD rumble and all of that will be used by very many games. The only ones I've seen use them are 1 2 Switch and ARMS. It makes these extra features seem a bit less necessary.

My Final Thoughts[]

Personally, I think the Switch is a great and unique console that is worth the price despite it being rather high. However, while I'm getting it Day 1, I think it may be best for people to wait to get the Switch, when the game library is bigger. What I think will happen is something similar to the 3DS: Its launch will be rather weak, but still relatively okay. As more games come out, price cuts, and holiday sales, the sales of the Switch should increase. I personally predict that, by the end of its lifespan, the Switch should sell 40M units at best, ~16M at worst. Believe, I really want this thing to succeed, and hopefully Nintendo will do things right and give this console justice.
