When Kirby becomes UFO Kirby, he begins to pilot a UFO (or in later games, literally become a UFO). In Kirby: Planet Robobot, he gains a golden helmet with ear guards, as well as antennae and star designs.
UFO is considered to be one of the strongest abilities in the series. When used, UFO provides indefinite levitation and several attacks, all of which are decided based on how long the B button (or its variants) are held. The longer the button is pressed, the stronger the attack will be. Kirby can also maneuver while charging, but is incapable of changing direction while doing so.
One of UFO's biggest drawbacks is its maneuverability throughout levels. It is incapable of going through floors and ladders, which makes it difficult to traverse through areas that utilize them.
UFO is infamous for being one of the rarest abilities in the series; not only is it available in few areas throughout the games, but in most games, it is automatically lost once the player completes a stage, unlike other abilities. in Kirby's Adventure / Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land, it is available in a mere four stages. In Kirby's Dream Course, the ability is only available for a limited ten seconds. In Kirby & the Amazing Mirror, the ability was made more common (and was usable for longer periods of time due to the Metroidvania layout), but was lost once the player enters the Central Circle. In Kirby: Squeak Squad, the ability is no longer lost upon completing a level, but due to UFO's difficult interactions with common obstacles, it was difficult to bring throughout levels regardless.
In Kirby: Planet Robobot, UFO becomes even rarer. It is usable through two different methods; by using the Kirby amiibo, or by having an 100% completion rate. UFO is similar to its Kirby: Squeak Squad incarnation, with the addition of several moves. It is now able to move throughout soft platforms and ladders, removing its limitations; however, it cannot guard.
|Chain Beam||Kirby fires a beam made of energy in front of him. It is identical to Beam's signature attack, but Kirby is capable of moving freely while it is used.|
|Smart Beam||Hold lightly||Shoots a small ricocheting laser beam. It is identical to Laser's main attack.|
|Heat Beam||Hold (medium)||Shoots a bigger laser beam with more damage. It does not ricochet off walls, however (with some exceptions).|
|Piercing Heat Beam||Hold (long)||Shoots a massive laser beam that pierces through several enemies with high damage. In Kirby's Adventure, it takes the shape of a star.|
|Heat Cannon||Hold (very long)||The UFO shoots one Piercing Heat Beam behind itself, and three Heat Beams in front of itself in varying directions.|
|Unidentified Flight||Dash + Hold||Kirby disappears and reappears multiple times in a zigzag shape.|
|Mystery Catch||Kirby creates a tractor beam, sucking in nearby enemies as if he was in his Normal form. Anything vulnerable to his Inhale has the same properties with this attack.|
|Star Guard||None/ repeatedly||A small ball of electricity constantly orbits the UFO, dealing small damage to anything it comes into contact with.|
