TwinBee

TwinBee is an anthropomorphic, bee-shaped robot who stars in the series of TwinBee video games created by Konami. He has also played an important role in the games Konami Wai Wai World and Parodius where he appears as one of several playable characters.

Information

TwinBee first appeared in the 1985 video game TwinBee of as the anthropomorphic aircraft the player controls. Since then, he has kept this role in all the sequels. TwinBee is always accompanied by a similar ship called pink WinBee, which is controlled by the second player. A third ship green also appears in some games, named GwinBee who has the ability to fuse with TwinBee or WinBee to use a special attack.

The story of the game takes place in the year 2801. TwinBee and WinBee are built by the curious Dr. Cinnamon, a genius inventor who created to defend Donburi Island of invading villains. This also assigned their own children, Annamon and Donnamon as pilots.

In the video game 1991 Detana!! TwinBee, a renewal series that uses a style which encourages to children and is maintained onward. Here, TwinBee's appearance is quite different to the original design, which look like a rocket, and he now looked like a sphere with arms, legs and bell-shaped turbines on his back. Furthermore, he was most controlled by the young pilot called Light, who is the grandson of Dr. Cinnamon. Another important development is that TwinBee can now become a blue robot with arms and legs and has a hammer as his main weapon.

Besides TwinBee series, this character has appeared in games Konami Wai Wai World as a controllable level aircraft in shoot 'em up style stages. He has played an important role in the Parodius series where he is one of the playable characters and appears like a ship with his own life without a pilot.

Appearances

Besides his cameos in other Konami games, TwinBee appears in some Super Smash Brothers series as a playable fighter. He also appeared in Konami's Paper Fighters game, where he appeared as a playable ship.

Trivia

  • TwinBee's name is a combination of two words in English, meaning "twin" (Twin) and "bee" (Bee). This is because the original game was played by two identical ships and whose design resembled that of a bee. In the US location of the second game, it was renamed as Stinger, which means "thorn", as well as the reference the fact that bees can sting people.
  • TwinBee was voiced by Mayumi Tanaka in the original version and by Desiree Hagman in the English dub.
