Tricoin
Tricoin
A basic Tricoin.
First Appearance New Super Mario Bros. Omega
Latest Appearance Super Mario Maker Chi

Tricoins are enemies or occasionally anti-collectibles in the Mario series. They are very rare enemies/items that you do not want to get, as they either harm you or take coins away from you. They can be seen as the Mario World's version of a Rupoor or can be seen as a similar obstacle as a Rotten Mushroom.

Description[]

Tricoins originally appeared as regular golden coins with eyes that had an angry expression on them.

In Super Mario Maker Chi, they appear as black coins with a minus symbol on them. They have a inverted looking color scheme to them.

Function[]

Tricoins have had two wildly different depictions. They have appeared as enemies that appear as fake coins that bounce towards Mario when he gets close to them, and can be defeated with a stomp. In another iteration, they are simply items that take coins from you when you collect them.

Appearances[]

New Super Mario Bros. Omega[]

Tricoins are enemies in New Super Mario Bros. Omega, bouncing towards Mario when he approaches it. You can defeat it with a stomp.

Super Mario Maker Chi[]

Tricoins return in Super Mario Maker Chi with a very different function and appearance. Tricoins are not considered enemies, but act as negative coins, removing coins from you when you collect them. When you try to collect one without any more coins in your coin count, nothing will happen. When a P-Switch is activated, they turn into Enemy Blocks as as opposed to Brick Blocks. Enemy Blocks have to be destroyed by throwing an enemy into one.

Super Mario Bros. Mirages[]

Tricoins appear in Super Mario Bros. Mirages as reductive items as they usually appear. In this game, since coins are slightly more important, they can sometimes be used as obstacles to litter a pit so you loose even more coins if you die. Tricoins can make it difficult maintaining the coins you'll need for Toads and Annas.
