The Avengers: Secret Invasion is a video game by THQ Studio Australia but it was cancelled sometime during August 9th, 2011. The game was later picked up by Toroko, who proceeded to finish the game with some of the same employees along with some other teams.
The Avengers: Secret Invasion is a first person co-op beat ‘em up. Each hero is equipped with an ‘assist move’ that momentarily stuns an enemy, leaving him open for a fellow player to attack. Players can create elaborate combos between one another, creating damage multipliers and bonuses based upon their success.
There is a sophisticated AI system to make sure that even if you weren’t playing it with others, you could still have a comparable experience that would channel the essence of teamwork at the heart of the Avengers. Extensive periods of tweaking were applied throughout development to achieve an intelligent computer-controlled counterpart, which included rebuilding it at one point to make the computer allies seem “more human”. This meant lowering their accuracy by a very slight degree, whilst also ensuring they were adequately responsive to combo opportunities.
Each Avenger has its own unique feel and playstyle. While Iron Man makes heavy use of projectiles like cluster missiles and can fly around stages, Hulk is slightly slower, but packs a much bigger punch than the others; taking down larger foes with ease in close-quarters. Thor possesses a potent stun ability in the form of summoning large bolts of lightning and can hurl his hammer for a powerful long range attack. Captain America is more grounded of the four initial characters. His melee combat is much quicker than the others and he can throw his shield for an easy kill.
Other shared traits of each characters are ‘Hero Boosts’ and ‘Interrupt’ attacks. Whereas Hero Boosts allow you to buff a fellow Avenger for a limited time (e.g. summon energy shields around them if you were Iron Man), interrupts are manoeuvrings to free allies from the grips of a Super Skrull.
A Skrull mothership is over the city! The Skrulls are a group of shape shifters that can disguse themselves as anyone. The Avengers have to put a stop to them. More later, cuz I'm lazy.
From the Get-Go
Anthony Edward Stark, called Tony by most, is a self-proclaimed eccentric genius, billionaire, playboy and philanthropist. He is also an armored superhero known as Iron Man. Iron Man makes heavy use of projectiles like cluster missiles and can fly around stages.
Dr. Robert Bruce Banner is a renowned scientist in the fields of Biochemistry, Nuclear Physics, and Gamma Radiation. However, after a Gamma Radiation experiment went awry, the mild-mannered scientist found himself plagued with a peculiar condition. When angered or provoked, he would transform into the rage fueled and nearly mindless, green-skinned monster known as the Hulk. Hulk is slightly slower, but packs a much bigger punch than the others; taking down larger foes with ease in close-quarters.
Thor Odinson was once the prince of Asgard who now serves as a member of the Avengers. When his irresponsible behavior threatened his homeland, he was stripped of his power and banished by his father, Odin, to Earth. While exiled on Earth, Thor learned humility, found love in Jane Foster, and helped to save his new friends from a destructive threat sent by his jealous adoptive brother Loki. In the process, Thor redeemed himself in the eyes of his father and was granted access to his power once more. Thor possesses a potent stun ability in the form of summoning large bolts of lightning and can hurl his hammer for a powerful long range attack.
Steven "Steve" Grant Rogers is a Super Soldier World War II veteran and was the world's first superhero. After a top secret Super-Soldier program transformed the frail Steve Rogers into the powerful and heroic Captain America, his amazing World War II exploits made him a living legend. Captain America is more grounded of the four initial characters. His melee combat is much quicker than the others and he can throw his shield for an easy kill.
Jessica's powers derive from her mother's womb being hit by a laser beam containing the DNA traits of several different species of spiders while she was carrying Jessica (the Drews were trying to splice and harness spiders' environmental adaptive capabilities, in order to graft them into the human genome). Spider-Woman appears in this story as a Avenger that joins them later. Soon, she begins to slowly reveal powers that seem way out of her skillset.
These characters are only available in Free Play, which is unlocked after going through the campaign.
