— Tempo, Boss Battles

Tempo is the main protagonist of the obscure Tempo series developed by Sega and Red Entertainment. Tempo is a small green anthropomorphic grasshopper who, alongside his friend Katy, aim to rid the land of Rythmia from King Dirge Sound and his minions, who hate music.

General Information[]

Physical Appearance[]

Tempo is a simplistic lime anthropomorphic grasshopper, with large dark blue purple eyes, and has yellow hair. He also has white glove hands and round white shoes.

In Tempo and Tempo Jr., his headset is red, but in Super Tempo, they are instead blue. He also has four arms in the former games, while in Super Tempo, he only has two. He got four arms again as of Boss Battles, but he retained the blue headset in this game.

Powers and Abilities[]

Tempo's abilities tend to vary; in the first and second game, he can stomp on enemies and perform a kick, as well as flicking notes. In Super Tempo, he instead uses a fiddle that shoots bubbles that incapacitate most enemies.

One of the consistent abilities Tempo has is that he can use his wings to hover and descend much more slowly. He also collects colorful notes for various purposes, being that to heal his health, or to make points.

He also has transformations in Super Tempo; he can become the eponymous Super Tempo by wearing cow-printed underpants, in which he becomes super strong and punches his enemies out of his way, and can flexes so hard that he can defeat a boss. He can also be enhanced further with the Mecha Mask to become Super Mecha Tempo.

Personality[]

In the Sega-exclusive games such as Tempo, the titular green grasshopper is not known to have much personality outside of being funky and expressive, but he is shown to go along very well with Katy, his friend.

In Boss Battle, he retained his funky personality and is much more expressive. He also switches between being nice, to being snarky at worst, depending on his mood or who is he is fighting against. He is also known to lose his temper when things doesn't go into his way, or when facing a very obnoxious person.

Appearances[]

Boss Battles[]

Tempo (not to be confused with the other characters with the same name) is a funky grasshopper from a very obscure game simply named Tempo, from the Sega 32X console. His friend is a butterfly called Katy. Should I tell you how adorable he actually is?

Tempo, alongside with Katy, appears in Boss Battles. Tempo has three default attacks, which are the Note Flick, Dancer's Kicks and the powerful Katy Combo. The latter attack can charge if Tempo had managed to make a successful combo with this and another attack.

He is a fragile speedster, but his attacks can inflict some continuous combos when performed well, especially in a rhythm, instead of just doing hit-and-run tactics. Katy can be knocked out, but he can revive her by getting near her, and automatically make a quick kiss into her cheek.

Tempo's Funky Pack[]

Tempo's true return and is shown to be capable of performing parkour. He is the fastest of the playable characters on ground speed, and his two projectiles are from his past appearances, which are the Note Flick and the Fiddle Bubble.

He also retained his Super Transformation, named as Macho Tempo in this game, and while not invincible anymore like in Super Tempo, he can still run and his throw strength had greatly enhanced.

He is shown to be the most tactical and retained his more expressive behavior from Boss Battles, but on rare circumstances, he is shown to bicker with Katy when one of the two had gone in an embarrassing or dangerous situation.

Despite everything, he is loyal to Katy to no end, and willing to protect her and his new best friends, Goliath and Light, refusing to let anyone harm them. However, his disapproval of Katy's selfishness, Goliath's battle-ready attitude and Light's meekness tend to be very clear, especially if it caused his situation to become worse.

He also don't hide his contempt on King Dirge Sound does to the king's "rule-mongering" attitude, but do recognize that the leader of the Musis can be very cunning, and respected him to at least put up a performance for once. In fact, while he made it clear to not wanting to hold back against vile people, he was rarely being disrespectful and prefer to let his action speak louder than words.

His two projectiles are the Note Flick and Fiddle Bubble as already noted. The Note Flick is weaker and only stuns enemies, but can be used to immobilize faster enemies. The Fiddle Bubble is inefficient against spiky enemies, those that are affected will be encased in bubble with enough hits, allowing Tempo or another player to deal the finishing blow.
