  • Yoshi and Kirby will have yarn skins as a reference to Yoshi's Wooly World and Kirby's Epic Yarn.
  • Cynthia will use some of her Pokémon. Her final Smash is Mega Garchomp.
  • Toon Link will have many of his movements changed. For example, his final smash will be the Ballad of Gales, that will have a similar power than his old final smash but it will bring in players who are near.
  • Ganondorf will have Toon Ganondorf (The Windwaker appearance) as a skin.
  • Princess Daisy will be playable as an alternative costume of Princess Peach. Details of their attacks will be changed depending of the character that the player has chosen.
  • Toad can be changed the skin so that the player can use Toadette or Captain Toad.
  • The Squid Sisters were planned as a unique character. Finally, it was decided to divide them in two different characters.
    • They are the only characters who can be unlocked at the same moment. The player has to beat them to unlock them in the same battle.
    • Each character will use two kits of three weapons each one from Splatoon, varying their attacks.
  • Tharja will have a second skin as Rhajat, the child character from Fire Emblem Fates. Her attacks will change aesthetically, so that Rhajat will attack with Ofuda, as a Diviner.
  • All the playable characters from the other Super Smash Bros. games will appear at least as DLC characters.
