A hero kick is an aerial attack in which a foot or arm remains extended for a few moments after the initial thrust. Properties of hero kicks include:
- Single hit attack.
- Stronger during first few frames, but weaker during later frames.
- Almost no startup and landing lag.
- Long hitbox duration.
- Similar animation and hitbox placement throughout entire attack.
- Almost always bad combo moves.
Hero kicks are renamed from their original unofficial name of "sex kicks".
Hitstun is a period of time after being hit by an attack that a character is unable to act outside of directional influence or teching.
Hitstun is an essential component of combos, as the basis of a combo is to have enemies trapped in hitstun while constantly being attacked. As a result, games that have more hitstun for equivalent knockback open up more potential combos.
An attack that has a specific knockback angle that sends opponents straight downward or at a largely downward angle. Meteor smashes are designed to be good at KOing opponents at low percentages, and as such most are difficult to pull off.
A technique performed by air dodging diagonally into the ground, causing the character to slide a short distance. While sliding, characters may perform neutral attacks while moving, making it a relatively useful technique.
While wavedashing in Melee had variable lengths depending on each character, all wavedash lengths in SSBY are equal.
