Super Smash Bros. Resolution (often abbreviated as SSB5 or SSBR) is a 2017 fighting game developed by Sora Ltd. and Namco Bandai and published by Nintendo. It is the fifth installment of the Super Smash Bros. series. Super Smash Bros. Resolution will be released for the Wii U in 2017.

Gameplay

Like its predecessors, Super Smash Bros. Resolution has gameplay that is different than most fighting games. The main goal of Resolution is to knock your opponents of the stage and instead of having a life bar, the fighters have percentage value where the higher the percent is, the farther the character will launch. When a character is launched beyond the stage boundaries, or blast zones, they are K.O.ed, losing a life, point or coins depending on the game mode.

Controls

Basic Controls

Super Smash Bros. Resolution controls with 4 different controllers, the Wii U gamepad, the Wii U classic controller, the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, and the GameCube controller. All of the controllers have the same basic functions for moving and attacking.

Moving and Attacking

The left analog stick is used to move the characters. Double tapping the analog stick causes the character to run. The characters can jump by pressing the analog stick up. Some characters have multiple jumps. Pressing the analog stick down causes the character to crouch and some can crawl by moving the analog stick left or right while pressing down.

The A button is used for standard attacks. Lightly pressing A and a direction causes the character to perform a tilt attack. When the analog stick is tilted fast and A is pressed, the character performs a smash attack, which is stronger than tilts. Tilts and smash attacks can be used upward, sideways, or downward.

Special Moves

Each character has 4 special moves, a neutral special which is used by simply pressing B, a side special which is used by pressing B and left or right, an up special which is used by pressing up and B, and a down special which is used by pressing down and B. A characters up special can be used to recover back onto the stage after being launched. Every character also has an ultimate attack known as a Final Smash, which can be activated after breaking open a Smash Ball. Final Smashes can do a ton of damage and some can even OHKO.

Other Actions

Characters can pick up nearby items by pressing the A button. Each character also has the ability to grab and shield. Each character has 3 taunts which can be imputed with the directional pad.

Single Player Modes

Super Smash Bros. Resolution has many single player modes. These modes can usually be played by 1-2 Players.

Story Mode

Super Smash Bros. Resolution/Story Mode

Super Smash Bros. Resolution features a massive story mode known as "The Reign of Darkness". The story features the various heroes teaming up to save their worlds from being trapped forever in darkness. It is very similar to Brawl's Subspace Emissary, except it features fully animated cutscenes with dialogue. "The Reign of Darkness" can be played with 1 or 2 players.

Classic Mode

Classic Mode returns to Resolution with some new features. In Classic Mode, players pick a character and they go through many different types of battles against many different opponents. These types of battles can vary from metal, giant, or team battles. Before each battle, the player can spin a wheel to determine the reward for completing the level. The player can earn trophies, gold, or even custom moves. There are 10 stages in total and completing Classic Mode will earn the player a standard trophy for the player's character.

Adventure Mode

Adventure Mode from Melee makes a long awaited return with some brand new features. Adventure Mode features more stages based on various Nintendo series. Adventure Mode now features a save system as there a a ton of stages in the Mode. Completing Adventure Mode will reward the alternate trophy for the player's character.

All-Star Mode

Super Smash Bros. Resolution/All-Star Mode

All-Star Mode makes a return in Resolution. Unlike in 3DS and Wii U, All-Star mode is an unlockable mode which is unlocked when all of the characters are unlocked. All-Star mode is a mode where the player's character must fight all of the characters in the game. Like in SSB4, the characters are fought by the year they were introduced. In between each battle the player can rest for the next fight and heal their character, but they must heal wisely as health recovery items are limited. Completing All-Star mode will give the player a trophy of their characters Final Smash.
