Soon after the completion of the aformentioned Scuffle, it was confirmed that a second game was already in the planning stages but not fully developed yet. Some theorize that Crusade is actually the finalized version of a protoype Smash Bros., known as Super Smash Bros. Blast; however, the two games have different developers.
Returning Elements
- Classic Mode returns. Similar to the past game, it features 3 paths to choose from every round. It also features the return of Metal Mario as a boss, who appears to be significantly different from regular metal characters.
- Smash Run returns. There are now different maps you can play on.
- Some Stadium events, such as Home-Run Contest and Target Test, will make it's return. Similar to Brawl, there will be one Target Test for different levels of difficulty.
- The Fighting Mii Team makes a return with a redesign.
- Omega Mode returns.
- Challenges return; however, alongside with larger boards for unlocking different things, each character has their own board, and the board will be where you unlock your custom moves.
- Stage bosses return; and they are now integrated into a brand new Boss Battles mode.
New Elements
- Similar to All-Star Mode, there will be a "story mode" where players will travel through different game universes to fight their bosses.
- A new minigame for collecting Trophies is introduced. Players will equip different stat boosts and do their best to break a crystal. The more parts of the crystal you break, the more trophies you recieve. You can pay coins to increase the chances of earning rare trophies.
- Stage bosses can be turned on and off.
- A new mode exclusively for playing online with friends or acquaintances. Details are unknown.
- Stamps make an appearance in this game as well for sharing through Miiverse.
- A brand new device that comes with the game, that is used to connect with players you walk by similar to Streetpass.
Starting Characters
Picture | Name | Description |
---|---|---|
Dr. Mario | Where's Mario? Oh well, the Doc will fill in for him. Doc is no longer a clone, as his Megavitamins work differently, and he has new moves. This includes a stethoscope for grabbing opponents and a sheet as a glider cape. His Final Smash now involves pills dropping from the top screen. Dr. Mario is fairly powerful, but his recovery is below average. | |
File:Luigissbi.png | Luigi | Often overshadowed by his more famous brother, Mario, Luigi has learned to develop a few tricks of his own over the years. He works similarly to Mario, with some key differences. Luigi is more powerful and quicker in the air, and his fireballs are unaffected by gravity. Luigi has also finally brought his Poltergust into battle this installment! |
Captain Toad | The bravest Toad alive, the leader of the Toad Brigade is often seen adventuring around and collecting treasure across the kingdoms of the Mushroom World. Captain Toad is unique for being the only character to feature a weight changing gimmick; he can increase or decrease his weight, which affects his power and recovery as well. | |
Donkey Kong | Mario's very first rival was a giant gorilla who stole his girlfriend and escaped to the top of buildings. Nowadays, Donkey Kong has turned over a new leaf and is seen competing with Mario in friendly matches like this one. Donkey Kong is large and in charge with powerful physical attacks, but lack of a proper projectile. | |
Diddy Kong | The nephew of Donkey Kong is a quick and playful chimp who's always helping DK in adventures. Unlike Donkey Kong, Diddy is fast and relies on his agility to distract and confuse his opponents while assaulting them with weaker attacks. His stretchy arms, Peanut Popgun, and acrobatic skills help him cover as much range as possible. | |
File:Dixie kong..png | Dixie Kong is Diddy's girlfriend, and while not seen on all of Donkey Kong's adventures, still fights on the Kong side fairly often, and has even saved DK twice. Dixie is not as nimble as Diddy, but her attacks are more powerful. Her aerial attacks have great range and she can slow her descent down with her whip-like hair. | |
Link | The name of Link is given down throughout the generations and is one of the defining traits of the hero of time. Link recieves a wardrobe change from his last Smash Bros. appearance, now equipped in his Hyrule Warriors look. Link is a projectile master who's special moves include boomerangs, bombs, and bow and arrows, while he is skilled in sword fighting too. | |
Zelda | The Queen of Hyrule, while often captured or held hostage by villains of all sorts, is clearly able to fight within her Hyrule Warriors appearance. Her neutral attacks are given longer range with her rapier and her smash attacks now have a wind effect with her baton. She is much quicker than previous appearances and is a bulky fighter for her weight with decent attacking options. | |
Pikachu | A small electric rodent-like Pokémon who is often seen as the face of Pokémon, they control electricity through their cheek pouches. Pikachu is quick and nimble, being able to run at fast speeds and charge into foes. Most of Pikachu's special moves revolve around the ability to use lightning as an attack, which will slightly stun opponents when hit. | |
Charizard | The final evolution of Charmander; Trainers who picked them on their journey in Kanto will be familiar with this fire-breathing dragon. Though a slow walker, its wings propel itself and give it good coverage in the air, while its attacks carry brute strength though are sometimes brought with risk. Charizard has two Mega Evolutions: perhaps both of them will appear too? | |
Kirby | Kirby is a small puffball who resides in Dream Land and is most famous for his gargantuan appetite and ability to inhale and swallow nearly anything. Kirby can inhale opponents to copy their look and one of their special moves. The other of Kirby's special moves utilize weapons Kirby can gain in his series. Kirby is powerful but lightweight and can be knocked around easily. | |
King Dedede | Although he carries the title of "King", Dedede certainly doesn't appear to administrate any particular place of Pop Star. Dedede, like Kirby, can fly and inhale, but he is slower in general. On the bright side, he carries a large mallet which gives him decent power as well as more areas to cover when fighting. | |
Bandana Dee | The most loyal servant of Kind Dedede is always by his side, and fights enemies of his king quite valiantly...even if it's obvious he can't win. He wields a spear, a weapon with a tipper hitbox. He can throw it around a lot, and even use some other Waddle Dee weapons. He might have even brought a friend or few from his adventures! | |
Samus | Samus is a bounty hunter who is tasked with defeating the Space Pirates. Samus, similar to Link, is a projectile master who uses moves such as bombs, missiles, and energy balls that can be charged and fires. Most of Samus's moves have some sort of range to them, meaning you'll have to space carefully. | |
Zero Suit Samus | Samus can fight without her Power Suit as well; she is much more agile and wields a pair of jet boots for better recovery. Even though she might not be as powerful, her kicks are still pretty astounding and her paralyzer gun will leave you shocked; quite literally. | |
Fox | An expert pilot and member of the Star Fox team. Fox is a very fast character for his weight and his attacks show this as most of them have little to no start or end lag and can be executed and canceled right away. On the other hand, however, his attacks aren't as powerful as some other fighters. | |
Marth | The prince of Altea, he has the blood of heroes and wields his Falchion into battle. Marth's sword is unique is that he wields the only sword with a tipper hitbox (and he is one of two characters with a tipper hitbox in general). This makes him perfect for spacing, but deadly precision is required to get the most out of him. | |
Pit | The last true angel alive in all of Skyworld, and the general of Goddess Palutena's forces. Despite being an angel he cannot fly and can only flap his wings a few times before falling. He attacks with various weapons such as the ranged Palutena Bow and the up close Upperdash Arm. | |
File:Olimarssbi.png | Olimar | A space traveler who has befriended the species of Pikmin, tiny plant like creatures who help Olimar in battle. Olimar is very weak on his own, but can pluck Pikmin and toss them for powerful ranged attacks. Keeping a balance of Pikmin in your team is key. |
File:Villagersmashbros.png | Villager | The Villager is a character in the Animal Crossing series that players control as they live their daily life talking with animal villagers and decorating their town. The Villager is a crafty character who's attacks may not look like they hurt. However, Villager is highly technical and requires practice to master. |
Wii Fit Trainer | In the game Wii Fit, this trainer was a visual guide for many exercises. Her moves are health based and she has agility and grace on both land and air. With the ability to power up some of her attacks and heal herself afterwards, The Trainer is full of tricks. | |
Little Mac | Although small, Little Mac has beaten many challengers as he was trained by the almighty Doc Louis, a retired boxer who created the Star Punch. Little Mac rips things apart on the ground but is a goof in the air, and his recovery is awful. He has a Power Meter as well - when it fills, his neutral special becomes a one time OHKO punch. | |
Shulk | The wielder of the Monado, a high tech sword that can cut through Mechon. Shulk can use the Monado to buff one of his stats at the cost of debuffing another. The sword can also open into a beam, giving it the longest range of a sword. |
