Gameplay

In the previous two Super Smash Bros. games, there was a feauture called the "Final Smash."  It could be unlocked by breaking a Smash Ball (If turned on in items), and could be activated by pressing the Neutral Special button. However, in this game, characters have up to four different Final Smashes.

Neutral Special activates the Regular Final Smash. Side, Up, and Down Specials activates the other Final Smashes.

Gameplay Changes

  • Clones are now alternate modes for the characters that they are clones of. (However, there are some exceptions such as Gannondorf.)
  • The game is faster than Smash 4, but not as fast as Melee.

Stages

Like the previous two home-console Super Smash Bros. games, Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, each stage has a variety of music. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS introduced Omega Stages, that is returning, however, Super Smash Bros. Crossfire introduces a new type of stage: Alpha Stages.

Alpha Stages (α)

Unlike Omega Stages, which were Final Destination forms of each stage, Alpha Stages are Battlefield forms of each stage. So they're still legal. Like battlefield, there are 3 platforms ontop of a stage in the middle of the screen. Some stages have an open bottom. (Such as Alpha Pokemon Stadium 4) While other stages like Alpha Onett have a closed bottom.

Modes

Classic Mode

Classic Mode is similar to it's previous iterations, and this time it's got some new feautres. Now you can set items on/off, and you can raise and lower the amount of times a certain level CPU appears.

Instead of the map in the 3DS Version and chess-like stage in the Wii U Version, CrossFire's Classic Mode is set inside a Arwing that you can control in space. There are portals that surround you, those portals lead to various battles. Images of the opponent you will face will appear infront of the portals. After a battle is complete, the portal you entered will "spit out" your reward, and disappear. Once all battles have been fought, a huge portal with portraits of aliens appear, this is the Multi-Man Match. After the Multi-Man Match, a black hole appears, sucking up everything, including your Arwing, and you appear on Final Destination. However, before taking on Master Hand, you will need to fight 3 challenging battles, and then the battle between you and Master Hand begins!

In difficulty levels of 3.5 and higher, you battle Master Hand and Crazy Hand. On difficulty levels of 7.0 and higher, Master Hand and Crazy Hand fuse into Final Hand! In the Boss Fight with Final Hand, there are laser Walls that surround the stage, which prevents you from falling off. If Final Hand makes contact with these Lasers, he takes damage. The objective is to knock Final Hand into the Lasers. If you were to make contact with the lasers you will deal 30% damage to yourself. After the boss battle, the credits are displayed in a mini game format. The credits minigame has you go back to your Arwing and fly across space shooting the credits (Similar to the credits sequence in Super Smash Bros. Melee), however, unlike the classic mode map, you're in a 2D perspective.

All-Star Mode

All-Star Mode is much like it's previous iterations, this time with an upgraded rest room, just like the previous games. However, there's a difference. In the previous game (Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS), you only had a one maximum tomato, 2 hearts, and a fairy bottle. In this version, you have all of that. But this time, you can purchase more healing items with your earned in-game coins. This encourages more playing to earn coins. Just like in the Wii U Version, the order of opponents goes from the newest characters to the oldest characters, in chronological order. However this time, after you've defeated all the characters, you're completely healed. After this, you are sent to Meta Crystal from Super SMASH Bros. (N64) You then fight off Metal Mario as a boss battle.

Arcade Mode

Arcade mode lets you play Super Smash Bros. like a normal fighting game such as Street Fighter (series) and Tekken (series). However, there are no special inputs like in the normal fighting games. (Unless you're playing as characters like Ryu and Heihachi.) Final Smashes can be unlocked in battle similar to how Special moves are unlocked in normal fighting games.

Plot This will be added later.

Trailers

E3 Announcement During E3 2019, the fifth installment to the Super Smash Bros. series was revealed, followed by a short presentation. The trailer begins with Kirby riding a warp star around space. Suddenly, an arwing with Fox appears flying near Kirby. They race, until they arrive at the Final Destination. There, they dash at each other, and then the screen fades to white. The logo "Super Smash Bros. Crossfire!" appears on screen. Then it transitions to Mario dashing at Link in a cinematic view. Then it transitions to a first person view of someone holding a wand, watching the battle. Suddenly, the person with the wand disappears from the screen, and appears between Mario and Link. The character waves at the screen with a splash screen saying "Ashley Wands to Battle!" This transitions to Ashley showing off her attacks, defeating other opponents such as Donkey Kong, Little Mac, Mr. Game & Watch, and Olimar. After this, there is a scene where Ashley stands infront of a shield-broken Mario. Suddenly, a spear is thrown near Ashley. Bandana Dee jumps onto the stage, transitioning to a splash card saying "Bandana Dee Spears His Opponent!"
