Duck Hunt[]

Duck Hunt Smash Crash Stage

Duck Hunt returns from Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U, retaining its appearance as a throwback to Duck Hunt. It is graphically the same, but in a similar way to Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, the score now follows the screen rather than being apart of the central platform.

Layout[]

The layout of the stage remains unchanged: the stage's basic layout consists of a single platform, with edges that drop down to the lower blast zone. The platform also has two trees on either side; the right tree serves as a single, lower platform while the left tree grants multiple platforms that reach higher.

Throughout the battle, ducks will fly around the stage, either one at a time for two at once, referencing Game A and Game B from Duck Hunt respectively. The ducks are harmless, though attacking them will cause them to fall behind the tall grass as if it as shot with the NES Zapper, where the dog will appear and hold the fallen duck(s) up. If all of the ducks are not attacked and instead fly away, the dog will appear and perform its signature laugh. The dog serves as an extra platform that appears for a brief moment before disappearing. In addition, if items are turned on, attacking the ducks will award items. Tall grass can also grow on the stage, which can obscure the players from vision of characters and items behind said tall grass.

γ Stage[]

In the stage's γ form, a reticle appears on the stage that will move around. Clay pigeons will begin flying around, which the reticle will shoot them similar to Game C in Duck Hunt. The reticle's shots can damage fighters if they are in the way. In addition, if all the ducks in a "round" are shot down, the fighter who has attacked the most ducks will become invincible for a few seconds.

Flat Zone +[]

Flat Zone Plus Smash Crash Stage

Flat Zone + continues the tradition of having a "Flat Zone" stage to represent the Game & Watch series. As with the other "Flat Zone" sages, Flat Zone + is based on a variety of games from the Game & Watch line, specifically Turtle Bridge, Fire Attack, Donkey Kong Jr., and Octopus. Interestingly, all characters in the stage are flat like Mr. Game & Watch.

Layout[]

The stage always starts on the Turtle Bridge part of the stage. There are platforms from Helmet, which players can stand on. There is also water, with a small turtle swimming from side to side. This turtle can be used as a platform, and the water can be used to swim in, thanks to the revamped underwater mechanics. After a time, a character will a bell will appear in the corner of the "screen", and transition to the next part of the stage, which is randomized.

The Fire Attack portion of the stage includes platforms on the central building from the game, which players can stand on. Characters from the game will appear and use their torches to attack the fighters, which can do severe damage. The Donkey Kong Jr. portion of the stage takes place on the first stage, with Donkey Kong and Mario on the top left of the screen. Fighters are able to climb up and down the vines, though Snapjaws will appear to attack. Birds may also appear, which also deal damage to fighters they hit. Finally, the Octopus portion of the stage is set almost entirely underwater, where players can swim in. Because there is little land, bubbles appear, which can restore the fighter's air. A giant Octopus swims in the stage, and will use its tentacles to attack the fighters.

Like Flat Zone 2 and Flat Zone X in Brawl and Smash 4 respectively, the stage will always transition back to the Turtle Bridge portion after being sent to one of the other three.

γ Stage[]

In the stage's γ form, two additional forms are added from Flat Zone 2 (and therefore from Flat Zone X); the forms based of of Fire and Oil Panic. In the Fire portion, a large building is on the left side, which has multiple platforms, and in the center are several platforms and a character from Helmet, which can also be stood on. In the Oil Panic portion, there is a large platform at the top of the stage. There are also two passersby on the ground. If either are attacked, the fighter will be launched by them.

Paper Theater[]

Paper Theater Smash Crash Stage

Paper Theater is based off of the setting of turn-based battles in the Paper Mario series, mainly Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.

Layout[]

The stage itself mainly consists of a single platform that extends to both the rightmost and leftmost blast zones. Borders of the stage are also concealed by curtains. Though basic, battles can get extremely hectic. An audience sits in font of the stage, spectating and cheering on the fighters. This audience consists of Toads, Koopa Troopas, Goombas, Dull Bones, Punis, Boos, Bulky Bob-ombs, X-Nauts, Shy Guys, Piranha Plants, Hammer Bros., and Crayzee Dayzees. Luigi may also appear in the audience as well, though he won't if Luigi is currently fighting. Some of the audience members will throw helpful items such as Food and Super Mushrooms to help the fighters, while others throw projectiles like rocks, cans, and bones to hinder them. Some audience members have special traits as well; Bulky Bob-ombs can explode to remove a good chunk of the audience, Crayzee Dayzees can put the audience to sleep for a short time, Boos can make a fighter invisible, and Shy Guys will run backstage and cause something to happen. The audience also grows depending on the fighting; if there are many attacks being thrown, more audience members will watch. Likewise, if not much battling is happening, the audience will start to leave.

Outside of the audience, many other things can happen depending on the battling. If attacks that shake the ground are thrown, and even if heavy characters like Donkey Kong, Bowser, and Petey Piranha land on the ground, it may cause the cardboard scenery to fall down and damage fighters below them. Objects such as lights, forks, and basins can also fall from the ceiling and damage fighters.

Themes[]

Referencing how the setting changes depending on the battle, the theme of the stage is randomly selected from many of the areas in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. These different themes also have different scenery that can fall on the fighters.

γ Stage[]

In the stage's γ form, whereas the regular form uses the initial battle stage, this stage has the Star-rank battle stage Mario uses when he reaches level 30. In addition to more audience members, there are also torches in the front of the stage, which can shoot fire or ice at fighters they aim at.

Yoshi's Island Smash Crash Stage

Yoshi's Island returns from Super Smash Bros. Melee after being brought back in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. The stage is set on the first world of Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island.

Layout[]

The layout of the stage is the same as its previous incarnations. Yoshi's Island consists of two central platforms with a gap in between each other. The left platform has a slope in the form of a slanted Warp Pipe from Super Mario World, which is held up by two miniature Warp Pipes. The slope then drops down, straight into the lower blast zone. The right platform also has a slope, only it extends upwards all the way to the right and top blast zones. There are also three rows of Flip Blocks; two being above one platform each and the third covering the gap in between the two platforms. When attacked, the Flip Blocks begin spinning, allowing players to pass through. After awhile, they will stop spinning and become solid platforms again.

In the background, a Fishin' Lakitu and a Banzai Bill can be seen.

γ Stage[]

In the stage's γ form, the stage's layout is slightly changed. The gap in between the two platforms is significantly larger, and is no longer covered by Flip Blocks. Instead, in the gap is a row of Note Blocks, which when jumped on will allow the player to bounce higher. The right side of the gap also has a row of column Flip Blocks, which can block a recovery. Lastly, the row of Flip Blocks on the right side of the stage has been moved to the left side, placed a little higher than the one already on the left side. Another row of Flip Blocks was added to the right side as well, consisting of five Flip Blocks.

Overall, the layout resembles the beta layout of the stage during development of Super Smash Bros. Melee before it was changed to its current state.

Yoshi's Island 64[]

Yoshi's Island 64 Smash Crash Stage

Yoshi's Island 64 refers to the Yoshi stage in the original Super Smash Bros., which later returned in Super Smahs Bros. Melee. It overall is based on Yoshi's Story, with the main platform being a storybook and the Super Happy Tree in the background.

Layout[]

The layout of the stage is retained from its previous appearances. The central platform is a floating, open storybook, which has two small slopes that extend to either side of the platform. Above this are two slanted platforms, with a third, straight platform above them. Some clouds also surround the main stage, with one on the left and two on the right. These clouds can serve as additional platforms, but will disappear if stood on for too long.

Goonies and Fly Guys can appear in the background.

γ Stage[]

In the stage's γ form, Flying Shy Guys from Yoshi's Story appear, which act similarly to the ones in the Yoshi's Story stage from Melee. They are harmless, but with items turned on some can carry items; attacking a Flying Shy Guy with an item will allow the player to use it.
