Super Smash Bros. Brawl HD is an HD remake of the 2008-fighting game Super Smash Bros. Brawl, exclusively for the Wii. It is for the Wii U and Nintendo NX platforms. The Story mode, The Return of the Subspace Emissary takes place a few years after the original story mode from Brawl. Atacon Gaming Division returns for the project, following the resignation of Masahiro Sakurai in January 2016.
Brawl HD is so far the latest remake to be announced, but a new Smash Bros. title, Super Smash Bros. Warriors, is set to be released in 2018.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl HD is a remake of 2008's Super Smash Bros. Brawl. All playable characters from the actual game, past remakes, and cut characters from Brawl (most notably The Forbidden Six) make a playable appearance in the game. Additionally, some characters from Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U (such as Duck Hunt, Villager, and PAC-MAN) also make playable appearances.
The game has a total of 52 playable characters.

Strangely there are no added stages. However, the Stage Builder follows the format of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U instead of Brawl for more creative stage design.
In addition to his appearance as a boss character, Ridley makes an appearance as an Assist Trophy, along with Toad from Super Mario, The Arwing from Star Fox, and Circle from Circle and Square.
Additionally, the Excitebike Assist Trophy has been removed, due to it's appearance as a playable character.
- Circle is the first and currently only Assist Trophy to appear before his Video Game appearance.
- Data was found that intended Little Mac, Issac, and Lyn were planned to be playable fighters, but were scrapped for unknown reasons.
