Super Smash Bros. Altercation is the latest entry in the Smash Bros. series. It has less of an emphasis on newcomers and instead focuses on revamping veterans' movesets. Veteran fighters will receive more inspired movesets set as their default moveset.
In this game, custom moves have been entirely revamped, allowing you to create completely new playstyles for veterans and newcomers. Old moves are still available for competitive play or personal preferences. In addition, a new kind of special attack has been added: Shield Specials.
Gameplay
Cosmetic Changes
- KO blasts have changed to be more like Galeem's beams, even having its sound effects.
Technical Changes
- A new kind of Special Attack has been added: Shield Specials. Press B while shielding to use them.
- Inkling technically had a Shield Special in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but it wasn't until Super Smash Bros. Altercation that all characters would have one.
- In order to air dodge, you now have to double tap the Shield button. This is so that Shield Specials can be used in midair.
- You can now manually be released from grabs by mashing out of it. Certain grabs will take longer or shorter to be released from.
- Smash attacks can be charged and used in midair, though if used in midair they will have different animations and effects than on the ground.
- Grabs and throws can also be used in midair, and are different from when they are used on ground.

Waluigi |
Waluigi Avaricious Athlete |
Waluigi is a character that represents the Mario spinoff games.
Neutral B - Serve: Waluigi throws a tennis ball up into the air. Using this move again while the ball in this air will allow you to hit the ball forward as a projectile, if timed correctly. The ball will lose speed and damage the further it goes. There is a rare chance that instead of a tennis ball, Waluigi will use a Bob-omb instead, which deals extra damage and knockback. Up B - Air Swim: Waluigi does a breaststroke to fly upward, dealing damage to enemies on contact. Mashing this move will allow him to perform more breaststrokes and increase his vertical distance. Side B - Kart Drive: Waluigi speeds forward in a Standard Kart before quickly braking to a stop. Any enemies will be damaged and buried on contact. In midair, the Kart will instead spike opponents. However, the Kart can be destroyed, which will damage Waluigi. Down B - Wall-Luigi: When holding this move down, Waluigi will create a path of thorny purple vines behind him. These vines are able to damage and knock back opponents that happen to come in contact, but disappear after a short time. There is a limited amount of vines you can create, and once that limit is surpassed, older vines will disappear to allow for newer ones to appear. Shield B - Whirluigi: Waluigi spins in a cyclone, dealing damage on contact. While this move is in use, he can move sideways, and any projectiles that hit him will be reflected. FINAL SMASH: N/A |
