“Instead of a battle 1-on-1 like in other Super Mario games, now all characters are able to show their power!”
— The main sentence on the back cover
Super Mario Tournament is a fighting game for the Wii U and is the first game to have Mario characteristics. The game improves on the gameplay and mechanics of the normal Tekken, but adds new features and content such as characters, stages and modes. One major feature of the game is being able to fight against other players online, either around the world, or only from the player´s current continent.
Characters can have 3 types max.
The types categorize the character´s main element in the game. Most of their attacks are based on them. Each have a strong attack element and a weak one.
A green arrow = strong attack A red arrow = weak attack
There is a total of 56 characters (34 default, 16 unlockable and 6 DLC). It resembles a smash roster, in terms of amount.
