Super Mario Quest: Black and White is an adventure-platformer game, made by Hybrid Co., and published by Fantendo. It's one of the most innovative Hybrid Co games of 2011, featuring a alignment system, jump combinations, special skills, and even more.

Gameplay[]

It's, basically, a traditional platformer. You can jump, run, and walk. When you start fighting, you can also throw punchs and attack. You have a open world, taking any paths you see, so you can go and pass levels by searching shortcuts. You can go trough all the Mushroom Kingdom in the game, with a free-will to take choices anytime.

When you start winning EXP, you win acess to the Skill Tree, with skills like "Double Jump", "Shell Throw", "Dash Kick"... Also, you win EXP by helping or attacking your friends/enemies. The skills vary between the alignment of the player.

You can take items from Question Blocks, and power-up whenever you want. However, those items only can be used one time each. If you want to transform one more time, you need to take another one.

At the end of each world, or in the middle of them, you encounter one boss. The boss is different if you're good, evil, or neutral. They have special attack patterns, and skills.

The world is open for you to explore, but has a story full of cutscenes and choices.

You can also play online, with a unlimited amount of players. On the Online mode, you can select other characters (and even their alignment).

In the online mode, you can battle other players with Suits, Power-Ups, shells, and other objects. You can also attack them by jumps. However, you can play on a Co-op mode with your friends.

Some of the Playable Cast in the multiplayer mode have special abilities.

With each level, you can buy one skill from the Skill Tree (however, to have one you have to get the first of the line). These make you jump higher, farther, more times, attack with the hammer... In the Skill Tree, you have two lines, one White and one Red. Those are exclusive to the Good and Evil alignment.

In the online mode, you can play with more than 300 players at the same time, battle them, co-operate with them, and even more.

Alignment[]

  • Lawful Good: Law implies honor, trustworthiness, obedience to authority, and reliability. Mario typically acts with compassion, and always with honor and a sense of duty.
  • Neutral Good: Mario is guided by his conscience and typically acts altruistically.
  • Chaotic Good: Mario favors change for a greater good, disdains bureaucratic organizations that get in the way of social improvement, and places a high value on personal freedom, not only for oneself, but for others as well.
  • Lawful Neutral: Mario believes strongly in Lawful concepts such as honor, order, rules and tradition, and often follows a personal code.
  • True Neutral: Mario sees good, evil, law and chaos as simply prejudices and dangerous extremes.
  • Chaotic Neutral: Mario is an individualist who follows his or her own heart, and generally shirks rules and traditions. His own freedom comes first.
  • Lawful Evil: Mario sees a well-ordered system as being easier to exploit, and show a combination of desirable and undesirable traits.
  • Neutral Evil: Mario is selfish and haves no qualms about turning on their allies-of-the-moment.
  • Chaotic Evil: Mario has no respect for rules, other people's lives, or anything but his own desires.

Story[]

Mario gets a letter from the Princess, saying that he must be in the Toad Town's Central Square at 08:00 o'clock. Not late, he goes to the meeting... and he discovers it's a trap! Bowser has kidnapped Peach another time. Knowing the disaster, Mario charges a fireball... while Bowser, with a new wand, shoots him! When the magic hits Mario, he senses something... And then, faints. Bowser takes Peach, destroys the town, and laughs at Mario.

When he wakes up, he feels something in his mind... some dark thinkings. Why do good things to the world? Why save a princess, without any reward? And so, he starts to reflex about it... without knowing Bowser's spell, which had created millions of infected darkness on Mario's body. It's now up to the player to see if the darkness will show, Mario will remain neutral, or the goodness will remain... Ready for anything, Mario starts the journey in the Mushroom Hills, a quest to reflex and think.

Evil Story[]

The Mushroom Kingdom is in a crisis. Peach's kidnapped, Mario's turned evil... How will they continue without their princess, and more without their hero?. The Toad Brigade thinks about their life from on. In the so-called "Mushroomy Meeting", they'll discuss about the future of the Mushroom Kingdom. But, in the way to the Castle, just in the Grasslands, they encounter Mario. Scared of him, Red Toad tries to run, but Blue stops him. They need to try and fight him.

Of course they fail: it's not even possible for them to win. The meeting messes up, while Mario defeats the members. However, Toadsworth has one hope: Yoshi. He sends him to the Woods, thinking his power will be enough to defeat Mario. Meanwhile, all the Mushroom Kingdom tries to contact with the Comet Observatory. Without a doubt, Mario defeats Yoshi in the forest. Yoshi tries to talk him about their past friendship, and how bounded they were. But Mario laughs, and shoots fireballs at the trees, making the forest burn. He runs into the Jungle.

Donkey Kong awaits Mario, trying to stop him, no matter what. But, when they see each other, Donkey Kong starts swinging on vines... A skill that only Mario can equal. Even though he was the greatest hope of the Mushroom Kingdom, he is knocked down in the Poisonous Water of the jungle. Mario runs to the beach.

When Mario attacks the city, and burns their homes, the Piantas get mad. The deity of the beach finally goes out of the water... It's Palm Bill, a giant Bullet Bill with the power of water! Seeing what Mario has done, he needs to stop him... He shoots himself into the Beach, and attacks he. However, Mario defeats him without any damage.

When the Mushroom Kingdom is praying for their life, someone appears and brokes into the castle. Someone who wants to stop Mario, but mostly to make he think another time. Someone who needed Mario. Yes, he was his brother, Luigi. He feel bad, for what he was going to do, but also thinked that was the only possibility. Making an agreement with the Mushroom Kingdom, he shoots himself in a cannon to the Ice Caves. Meanwhile, the Comet Observatory starts to agree with the Mushroom Kingdom... Luigi is defeated, and Mario climbs the Sand Waterfall, only to get to the Sky Dunes.

Appearing from the stars, one star spirit posseses a Doll another time... With his cannon, he starts to charge... and flies to the Sky Dunes. Without a doubt, he will try to defeat Mario!... But fails, defeated in the sands. Mario tries to make contact with Bowser's Starship, and makes it to the Moon with a new ship. Lubba, now Rosalina's helper, appears in the Starship and tries to stop him, showing the true power a Luma has. However, Mario defeats him easily.

Rosalina's the last hope. Creating a Black Hole to absorb the Starship, Mario, in the space, tries to defeat her and destroy the Mushroom Kingdom finally. In a battle between the two, trying to escape the Black Hole, Rosalina gets finally eaten by it... while Mario escapes, laughing at her, and the Mushroom Kingdom.

When Mario returns to the Mushroom Planet, the player sees the Castle's ruins, and Mario being Bowser's knight.

BAD END

Good Story[]

Bowser's furious. The plan has failed. And he has no more resources... But, approaching him, Ludwig thinks of a plan... Bowser feels great. Commanding Kamek to shoot him into space, he says to all Koopalings to try and stop Mario, once and for all... He will await new reports.

Bowser Jr, staying in the Grasslands, tries to stop Mario from attacking his father, but fails in an aerial battle. Laughing, Bowser Jr shoots the Mushroom City, setting it on fire... Mario runs into it to help, while Bowser Jr exits the Grasslands.

Done with the City, and having a grudge on Bowser Jr, Mario continues into the forest. Seeing some bouncy balls attacking the Yoshis, he starts to have an idea of who is here... Bouncing on the trees, Lemmy attacks him with all his fury. Without a doubt, he fails.

Before exiting the Forest, the water level rises... and it's poisonous! All the forest gets covered by some poison water... The Yoshi fall into it, knocked... Why are the Koopalings doing so much chaos? They usually just do simple, mischievous things.

In the Swamp Jungle, he battles Iggy Koopa, who is riding on this newest invention: the Bullet Bill Shooter Robot. However, he's defeated while laughing like crazy. Mario starts feeling bloodthirsty, like he never was... why? He's angered, furious, holds grudges... That's something he never feeled. Even though he's choosen the good way, some evil thinkings go through his mind... It seems the chaos from the Koopalings is unleashing his wrath.

Mario continues to defeat bosses, like Wendy, Larry, Roy... With each one, he feels more agressive. He can't control himself. Because of that, he goess of to the desert, in search of peace... But, in some way, the Koopas are already here: he can't rest, because of all those Dry Bones. And so, he goes to defeat Larry...

After doing so, he, with the power of one star left by Larry, shoots himself into space, breaking into the Space Station made by Ludwig von Koopa. Here, he battles Ludwig, and Morton... When he defeats those, he finally thinks he has winned... But the starship starts to be eaten by a Black Hole!

Bowser's attacking him.. He wants to defeat he, for all to stop, for he to recover from the Virus, to revenge all the fallen ones... In a battle of epic proportions, Bowser's finally defeated, and eaten by the Dark Hole. Mario runs and, with the help of Rosalina, rescues Peach from the Space Station. After doing so, he comes back to the Mushroom Kingdom, having settled the grudge, and settled his inner thinkings.

In the end, Peach bakes a cake for Mario... But the Koopalings appear in it! Taking Peach with they, they run through the Grasslands... Mario will have to rescue Peach another time, but that's another story!
