Super Mario Galaxy 3: Legend Of The Cosmo Wand, is a 3D game published by Nintendo, and a sequel to Super Mario Galaxy 2. It is the conclusion to the Super Mario Galaxy series.

Plot[]

Walking to Princess Peach's castle, The Mario Bros. look up to see Bowser and The Koopalings swarming the castle. They attempt to fight them off, but are overpowered. This time, not only did they kidnap Peach, but broke into a vault and stole The Cosmo Wand. Losing hope, Mario and Luigi find themselves stuck in a destroyed Toad Town. Thankfully, Rosalina and Lubba bring down The Comet Observatory. They tell them about The Cosmo Wand.

The wand is a powerful artifact, created before time began. Nobody knows where it came from, all they know is that it can grant unlimited power, speed and intelligence. It's famous for it's power to create a galaxy in an instant. Millions of years ago, a band of evildoers used it for bad purposes and the world nearly fell into oblivion. A brave band of wizards were able to stop them, and gave it to the royal Toadstool line for safekeeping. The wizards were rewarded with limitless power, which they put together to make galaxies. These wizards are known as The Galaxy Gods who all took one element to be the Galaxy God of. Bowser, the Koopalings and Bowser Jr. have kidnapped one Galaxy God each and have harnessed their power.

Mario and Luigi head off and Blue Toad and Yellow Toad also come along. Travelling through space, they notice Wario and Waluigi in a metal ship. They explain their motives to use the wand to build a galaxy of their own. The Mario and Wario brothers briefly fight. After being defeated, the Wario Bros. reluctantly go along with them.

First, they go through a galaxy called, 'Larry's Lucky Lake'. There, Larry uses the Cosmo Wand and one of the Galaxy God's power to fight. He grows himself large and fires beams at the heroes. All the player must do is avoid these beams and attack Larry. The six heroes defeat him and rescue the Nature Galaxy God. He thanks them by giving them a Tanooki Suit, a Super Leaf and a new power-up, The Vine Flower.

Then, they go through a galaxy called, 'Morton's Punch Planetarium'. There, Morton uses the Cosmo Wand and one of the Galaxy God's power to fight. He grows himself giant and powers his hammer. He shoots symbols out of his hammer in vortexes and smashes people with his hammer. The player must jump from vortex to vortex and hit his hammer three times. They rescue the Air Galaxy God and are rewarded with a Bee Mushroom, a Propeller Mushroom and another new power-up, The Spiny Shell Suit.

The third galaxy is called, 'Wendy's Wicked World'. Like the other battles, Wendy uses the Cosmo Wand and a Galaxy God to fight. She grows herself and flings her bow like a boomerang. The player must jump on top of her bow and aim it so it hits her wand five times. This is quite difficult, as her wand is constantly moving. After defeating Wendy, the heroes proceed to rescue the Water Galaxy God and are rewarded with a Penguin Suit, a Frog Suit and yet another new power up, the Water Walker Flower.

The fourth galaxy, 'Iggy's Lair of Lair's', has Iggy as the boss. He uses the same tactics of past bosses but slightly different. He makes a giant machine, called the 'Mecha-Iggy', and climbs into it. He proceeds to shoot laser beams and flames. The player must use each characters strengths and weaknesses to do different tasks and then the heroes must power each other and do a combo attack on the Mecha-Iggy's helmet, the main source of power. The machine will fall apart and explode. The heroes proceed to rescue the Technology Galaxy God. They are rewarded with a Spring Mushroom, a Metal Cap and another new power-up, The Gear Flower.

The fifth galaxy is 'Roy's Rocky Land'. Here, Roy grows himself huge and greatly enhances his cannon. He fires Banzai Bills out of his cannon and the player must deflect them, whilst avoiding beams shot from his wand. After defeating Roy, the heroes rescue the Earth Galaxy God. They are rewarded with a Rock Mushroom, a Mega Mushroom and a new power-up, The Boulder 'Shroom.

They go through the sixth galaxy, 'Lemmy's Power Planet'. Like the other battles, Lemmy grows himself and his ball large. He rolls around trying to crush people whilst shooting beams out of his wand. The player must dodge the beams and the ball and try to get a combo attack on Lemmy five times. After defeating Lemmy, the heroes recue the Undead Galaxy God. They are rewarded with a Vanish Cap, a Boo Mushroom and a new power-up, The Bone Flower.

The seventh galaxy, 'Ludwig's Lava Labyrinth', holds Ludwig as the boss. Ludwig grows himself giant and slashes his claws at the heroes. The player must do a combo attack on his claws three times. After that, he teleports around and breathes fire and beams. The player must combo attack Ludwig's wand five times whilst avoiding the fire and beams. After defeating Ludwig, the heroes rescue the Magic Galaxy God. They are rewarded with a Star, a Wing Cap and a new power-up, The Venom 'Shroom.

They go through the eighth galaxy, 'Bowser Junior's Planet of Pain'. Bowser Jr. grows himself and jumps in an also grown Koopa Clown Car. He shoots lasers and beams. To defeat him, the player must simply jump on the boxing gloves and smash it into the Clown Car. After Jr. is halfway defeated, he traps the six heroes - Mario, Luigi, Blue Toad, Yellow Toad, Wario and Waluigi- in a box. He loads up a cannon with eight dice, the six heroes' icons, the Clown Car and Jr. himself, and forces the player to choose one of the buttons. The button will shoot out a random dice. If it's one of the six players the player chosen will be out, if it's the Clown Car then it will damage itself and if it's Jr. he will be instantly out. The game ends when all six heroes are out, thus making Jr. the winner, Jr.'s icon is rolled or if the Clown Car is damaged five times, both making the player win. They rescue the Fire Galaxy God and are rewarded a Fire Flower, a Mix Flower and a new power-up, The Lava Suit.

In the ninth and final world - 'Bowser's Galaxy Of The Cosmos'- the team fights Bowser. He starts by landing them on a rock platform whilst plasma meteors rain down at high speeds. The player must jump from meteor-to-meteor to reach Bowser, where they must do a combo attack on his snout. Then, Bowser repeatedly smashes his fist into the platform, breaking bits off of it. The player must time correctly, then run up Bowser's arm to hit him in the eye. After that, he will start ground pounding, breaking the last of the platform. The player must get the six heroes to grab his tail and smash him against the ground. After being smashed against the last bit of platform, he will jump into his shell and spiral around space. The player must get one of the heroes to fit through the hole in Bowser's shell and attack him in there. After coming out of his shell, Bowser breathes fire. To avoid this, the heroes must huddle together to deflect the fire back at Bowser. Finally, Bowser will attempt to punch the heroes. The player must put the heroes together and smash into Bowser, whilst avoiding his fist. The cycle continues until the player hits Bowser three times in each attack section. The intensity of the battle causes the galaxy to start to collapse in on itself. They must get out of the galaxy in time, but the path is filled with lava, fire, lasers and more. After making it out, the galaxy collapses and Bowser, the Koopalings and Bowser Jr. seem to be defeated once and for all. The heroes return home with Peach. At Bowser's Castle, a red eye is shown on screen, hinting Bowser is alive. The heroes make an official vigilante team MKPS (Mushroom Kingdom Protection Society).

Gameplay[]

The gameplay is largely inspired by Sonic Heroes, which is ironic considering that Sonic Heroes is a Sega title. The player can switch between heroes, each hero with a unique ability that the team will need to complete the level. Mario has the ability to wall jump, so he can hit levers bringing the other heroes up in an elevator. Luigi can jump very high, so he can let down a rope. This gets quite complex, as a sign is laid out before the ledge. The player must memorize the weight of each hero and put them onto the rope heaviest to lightest. This order would be: Wario, Waluigi, Mario, Yellow Toad then Blue Toad. It's complex because of the order you must put them on. You have to put the heaviest on first, then the lightest, then second heaviest, then second lightest until it reaches Mario in the middle. Yellow Toad can dig underground to get past walls, allowing the other heroes to get past by bringing down the wall. Blue Toad can climb through small spaces, then open it up into a bigger space allowing the other heroes to go through. Wario can push boulders and other large objects out of the way, allowing other players to progress. Waluigi can jump very far, so he can let out a bridge allowing the other heroes to progress. The levels alternate in a pattern, five levels in a 3D setting, six levels side-scrolling and seven levels in the galaxy formula. After that, the player plays a sectioned level that has all three gameplay types in one. The cycle repeats.
