Super Mario Animal World is a video game developed by Color Theory Entertainment and is the first main series Mario game to be developed by a different company.
How it came to be
Elijah Berry, the owner of Color Theory Entertainment, was developing other games for Nintendo and Rare and became big hits. This gave Nintendo courage to let CTE develop a Mario title but they're not sure what he can do with Mario. After playing Super Mario 3D World he stated, "I have a feeling you wanted it to be called Animal World." This may be because of the cat suit, the mice enemies and Plessie. Elijah Berry decided to have the game more animal themed, and have a variety of animal characters in this game. When looking deeper into the fan reactions, he noticed that what they liked about Mario 64 and Mario Sunshine was the exploration, so he decided to go back to these routes.
Story (so far)
The game is about Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Toad, going to an island for a vacation via boat. But Bowser of course wants to ruin their fun and attempts to kidnap Princess Peach, until a tidal wave interupts the battle and washes off all of them off shore. Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Toad, wake up on a mysterious island where they meet Ooki the Monkey, and leads them to a tribe filled with animals, where Ooki reveals that this is Palm Tree Island, where the civilians are intelligent animals. He says that the King of the island had gone missing, as well as some other animals on this island. Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Toad, all agree to help out.
