Super Mario 64 2 is the direct sequel of the successful Super Mario 64 on the Nintendo 64, it was released in 1997 on the same console although it was originally developed for the Nintendo 64DD, but due to the commercial failure of the Disk Drive, the project was moved to the Nintendo 64.

Even though the gameplay is the same as Super Mario 64's one, the main sell point of the game was its two players mode.

The story of the game takes place directly after the events of Super Mario 64.

After Bowser was defeated, he decides to take his revenge and kidnap princess Toadstool once again, but this time he takes her to his fortress.

Bowser's caslte, the main hub of the game.

Mario goes to Bowser's fortress to save the princess, but Bowser sealed all the doors of his castle, so Mario has to go into different worlds to find keys to open the closed doors, each key being protected by one of Bowser's minion...
