Super Mario: The Movie is an upcoming 2017 3D computer-animated fantasy-adventure comedy-drama film based off the 1985 - video game series by Nintendo. The film is being produced by Illumination Entertainment in Association with Nintendo Studios.  It is being directed by Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud and written by Shigeru Miyamoto. It will be released in RealD 3D and IMAX 3D June 23rd, 2017. It will feature Charles Martinet reprising his role as Mario and Luigi as well some big name actors and actresses such as Jeremy Irons, Emma Roberts, Josh Hutcherson, Amy Adams, Rick Moranis, Jonah Bobo, John C. Reilly and Jim Cummings.

Super Mario: The Movie follows the plot of Super Mario Bros. on NES though it will use elements from various other games in the Super Mario franchise (Super Mario Bros. 2&3, Super Mario World, Super Mario 64, Mario Kart, Mario Tennis, Super Mario Sunshine, New Super Mario Bros. (1&2 and Wii/U) etc.). After finding themselves in a strange world, Mario and his younger brother Luigi learn that they must rescue Princess Peach from the evil King Bowser and restore peace to the Mushroom Kingdom. Together, the Mario bros. (with a little help from Toad, Yoshi and Birdo) embark on an epic quest to Bowser's Castle.
