Super Mario: All New Stars is a compilation Mario Game released for the Nintendo NX. Like Super Mario All Stars, the game contains multiple Mario Games, but unlike Super Mario All Stars, 4 of the games were never before released until the release of this game.

Release

The game contains 4 all new Mario Games in the style of Nintendo's first 4 home consoles. After a successful kickstarter campaign, special production runs were made to port each of the titles to their original consoles (though some games were scaled down in features). Each of the titles is also downloadable on its own through Nintendo's e-shop. Purchasing all 4 unlocks Super Mario: All New Stars, and purchasing it alongside Super Mario 3D Galaxy and Mario Maker also adds the games to the interface.

The Games

Super Mario Bros. 4

Super Mario Bros. 4 is a game made in the 8 Bit Style. Despite its 8 bit graphics (featuring upgraded pixel art in a new style rather than copying any previous game), the game draws many mechanics, power ups and locations from Mario titles released after Mario Bros 3. (including 3D mario games). A limited edition collector cartridge was ported to the NES. It includes the return of the 4 protagonists from Mario Bros. 2 (as well as the Vegetable mechanic), and a multiplayer mode in the style of New Super Mario Bros is available on the NX, but not on the NES, which instead includes a traditional alternating multiplayer, but gives the opportunity to the non active player to control some level hazards.

The game received praise for adapting many mechanics (such as the non lineararity of Super Mario World and Mario 64 and the gravity mechanics of Mario Galaxy) to an 8 bit game.

Super Mario World 3: Mario's Adventure

Super Mario World 3 is a Mario game made in the style of a late era SNES game with the Super FX chip. The game mirrors Super Mario World and other 2D Mario Platformers, but takes many influences in both Style and Gameplay from Yoshi's Island (in a tribute to Super Mario Bros 3 taking some influence from the very different Mario 2 despite mostly returning to the gameplay of the original Super Mario Bros). For example, Mario receives a score out of 100 at the end of every level, and the Bosses are all normal enemies magically enhanced by Kamek. Yoshi appears in many levels, and retains many mechanics from past iterations, including Watermelons from Yoshi's Island and the fruits from Mario Galaxy 2. Some levels revolve around using particular transformations of Yoshi, including returning transformations from Yoshi's Island, though mario is still the playable character. The bulk of gameplay is 2D, many sprite effects are used to give the illusion of 3D and depth to levels, including some levels where gameplay occurs in both the foreground and background, and a level which takes place on a train tracks that appear to move in all 3 Dimensions.

An HD version, which rescales the sprites from 16 Bit to 1080p, is available.

Super Mario 128

A game in the style of the Nintendo 64 (though more technically advanced than Mario 64, in the style of a game using the Expansion Pak), Super Mario 128 represents a sequel to Mario 64. The game has identical controls to Super Mario 64, but contains many additional mechanics. An upgraded Princess Peach's castle returns as the hub world, but the games levels take place in a single enormous world, which contains different regions. Regions are unlocked through activating a flagpole, which also functions as the level entrance from the hub world. The game contains 18 regions with 5 power stars each (non linear gameplay), as well as 18 paths between levels (linear gameplay) and 6 Bowser levels. Path Levels are playable in Multiplayer (in gameplay resembling Mario 3D world); the other players control Luigi, Yoshi and Wario. All three of those characters also appears as a rideable character in the Single Player Game in different roles; Yoshi is rideable in some levels, Luigi is playable in some levels with puzzles involving switching between the two Mario Bros, and Wario is a recurring Antagonist.

The game is playable in HD on the NX, giving the game a crisper and cleaner look, though what's largely influenced is texture quality.

Super Mario Moonlight

The game, in the style of a Gamecube Game (though like Mario 128, the game is playable in HD) is a combination of Luigi's Mansion and Mario Sunshine. The game controls like a Mario Platformer, but instead of Fludd, Mario or Luigi wield the Poltergust 3000. Unlike Fludd, the vaccuum has little influence on the platforming aspects of the game, and is largely used for puzzles, combat and special levels.

The game, much like Mario Sunshine, revolves around a single theme (horror), but features a variety of worlds. Indoor locations have the same forced perspective 3D platforming as Luigi's Mansion and Wario World, but outdoor locations are free roaming.

Mario Museum

All 4 new games have collectibles that unlock items for the Mario Museum, an explorable first person world (compatible with the VR Lens) which features pictures, videos and even playable demos from throughout Mario's history. This aspect was praised for being comprehensive revealing previously unknown aspects of Nintendo History, and for including new gameplay in the playable demos (for example, a playable version of the 128 marios tech demo from Spaceworld 2000, and new levels for old games such as Super Mario Kart)

Super Mario 3D Galaxy

The special edition of the game (Super Mario: All New Stars +) also includes the Nintendo NX launch title, Mario 3D Galaxy. Levels from all 4 other games are playable in Mario 3D Galaxy, with Prankster Comets enabled.

Super Mario Maker

The idiosyncratic graphical styles of all 4 new games are selectable for Mario Maker, even though all levels remain 2D and gameplay in the Mario 128 and Mario Moonlight styles resembles New Super Mario Bros U. This allows games resembling Yoshi's Island, Mario 64 and Mario Sunshine to be made.

Other

All previously released Mario games purchased for Virtual Console will be selectable in the "Other" room of the Mario Museum. There are no other known interactions.

Downloadable Content

Each of the 4 new games has an area available for DLC levels. Defeating the final boss of each of the 4 games unlocks a level from that game in each of the other games (including Mario 3D Galaxy). 2 DLC packs were released for each of the games, including unlockable Mario Museum Content.
