|Sadness in My Heart|
|TV Series||Shards of the Past|
|Writer(s)||Summon Night Pratty|
|Preceding Episode||Forced Evolution Test Part 1|
|Following Episode||Dean and Nine|
The episode starts with Nine narrating the events from E03, it later goes to a scene where Mei is at her home. She is no longer depressed, as she is starting to feel happy, hoping to see son again. Shirley then asks her parents if she can go to the mall today, namely to buy some new clothes for whenever she sees her brother again. They said yes, and they, (along with Nine and her father) prepare to take Shirley to the mall.
The scene then cuts to an unknown pilot, who sneaks in the house to get the S01-Arthur out of the basement. He then takes it to Task Squad 589's Gur-M labs, he adds the F.L.E.I.J.A. system, a device that is able to directly interpret the user's thoughts by picking up their brainwaves to the ASO. He prepares to go to combat, mainly to test out his new-found Farsian abilities.
The scene later goes back to Shirley, who is at the Emerald City Mall shopping for clothes. She tries them on and likes some of the clothes, but didn't like the rest. She buys the ones she liked the most, and leaves the shop. As she prepares to leave the mall, a Elpeo Black appears and destroys the mall, causing it to fall apart. Everyone but Shirley left the mall to evacuate, Shirley starts to cry for help.
During his first time in combat, the pilot's Farsian powers allowed him to hear a girl crying for help with the F.L.E.I.J.A. system and flies to the scene. He lays the S01-Arthur's hands down to save her, she tells whoever is piloting the S01-Arthur to put her down, he acknowledged greatly to do so. The pilot then sees the Elpeo that destroyed the mall, he read the mind of the person piloting the Elpeo and destroys it with one slash, thus presumably killing the pilot of the Elpeo and saving the girl from her death. Dean left immediately. Lou asked him, he wouldn't say a thing, until she forced him to say it. Dean confessed that he joined the Task Squad 589. His father disowns Dean after finding out he's the part of an unknown Force, although he doesn't hold to it after everyone tells him that he should just be happy because his son is lost 8 years ago. Dean cries while leaving. His family also left. Shirley cries because her brother is disowned and Nine stays there, following Dean.
