The film was released on July 1 in North America in all RealD, Dolby 3D and IMAX venues. This is followed by Kamen Rider x Super Sentai x Space Sheriff x Nintendo x SEGA: Legend War
Sonic and Tails find out one morning that a massive emerald is within the Earth's core. Blaze comes by to inform Sonic that an ancestor of hers has been spotted in a chunk of ice off the coast of Tails' island.
When they uncover her, they find out that someone attempted to remove the Giant Emerald from the center of the Earth, which led to great disaster on the island. In a last-minute effort to save herself from the destruction, she jumped into freezing water so that she could be frozen, in the hopes that she would be discovered and revived.
Blaze's ancestor, named Drizzle, explains that the Giant Emerald must never be removed from the core of the Earth. However, Eggman has overheard the conversation, albeit ignoring the danger of it being removed. He intends to dig it up in the hopes of instant wealth. Omochao hears this and goes off to warn the group.
Amy, Knuckles, Shadow, Espio, Charmy, Rouge and Cream are brought into the group in order to stop Eggman, but it is too late as Eggman begins digging underground. Then, as Eggman tries to remove a small chunk of the emerald, the earth begins violently shaking as the Earth is slowly splitting in half.
Everyone in the group leaves the Earth's atmosphere in a spaceship just as the Earth completely splits in half. It is discussed that only Blaze and Sonic can revert the Earth to normal and stop the deadly spirit that emerges from the Giant Emerald if one attempts to remove it, this explains why great disaster erupted which led to Drizzle freezing herself.
When the spirit emerges from the Emerald, Sonic becomes Super Sonic and Blaze fully charges herself up for battle. They quickly try to blast away the spirit but Drizzle manages to inform them that the two have to blast the Emerald into shards.
The two prepare to blast the Emerald, but everybody else in the group works together to make the final blast work as Sonic's supersonic energy is depleting. It succeeds, the Emerald spirit is defeated, the emerald explodes into a series of shards that vaporize as they fly off into the outer edges of the universe and the Earth reverts to its normal state.
Because Sonic is unconcious from the energy blast, they rest him on Tails' bed when they return to his island. Fearing that he may be dead, Blaze tearfully consoles him. As she embraces him, one of her tears lands on Sonic's face and he comes to, much to everyone's happiness. Although Amy is angry because he won her sympathy and not Amy's. She chases him around the island with her big hammer. The credits roll after we zoom out from the island into outer space.
