Sonic Version 2.0 is a game for the The V² console, developed by Toroko. The game is intended as a reboot of sorts for the Sonic series, however the mainline series will run by it, making it a spin-off. It is inspired by Sonic Blur: Episode α however it will not be done in a episodic release and will likely be more deattached from the source material than Sonic Blur ever was.
The game is set in a world called South Island. Sonic is the leader of a band known as Junkhogs. During one of their performances, their manager Dr. Eggman learns that an assassin known as Fang the Sniper is after Sonic. After stopping Fang from killing Sonic, the band heads after Fang's employers.
Sonic Version 2.0 is a side-scrolling beat-em-up. You must select a character (up to four can play) and head out into the locales of South Island. Enemies walk onto the screen from both sides as well as occasionally appearing from other locations. The player must defeat each opponent to progress through eight locations, known as rounds. There is a boss battle at the end of every "round". Cutscenes may play between rounds, progressing the story.
Food may drop from time to time, healing different amounts depending on who eats it.
Sonic the Hedgehog
Art by mintenndo.
The leader of the Junkhogs, Sonic values freedom above all else and strives to live his life according to his own rules rather than the standards of those around him or for the sake of heroism and duty. He also likes to travel the world. Although kind of arrogant, this element is somewhat downplayed to emphasize his rebelliousness, not caring who disapproves of his actions. He's the fastest character in the game, tackling his enemies with spinning jumps and the Spin Dash. He is in a relationship with Madonna.

The secondary singer behind Sonic. Madonna is not nearly outspoken as Sonic towards freedom but shares his common beliefs. She is rather kind and values others over herself but has a bad habit of making herself feel bad by insulting herself, and it is suggested that the only reason Sonic is the primary singer is because Madonna does not believe she is that good of a singer. She's kind of a speedy character but not anywhere near Sonic's speed and attacks enemies with bombs and a "X Slash", which is two quick slashes that knocks a enemy back. She is in a relationship with Sonic.
Honey the Cat

The girl behind the drums. Honey was interested mainly in promoting her new fashion line, but has grown to like the band beyond promoting herself and her clothes. She is very confident, allowing her to tackle stuff that even Sonic is confident about. She's a bit slow compared to the other characters but still can keep up a good pace. She uses boxing moves to attack and can utilize two golden guns to do projectile attacks with.
Vector the Crocodile
The guy behind the bass and overall mixing the songs. He's kind of unappreciated but he doesn't mind, he just likes doing his job regardless how much fame it gives him. Although large and imposing, he has a kind heart beneath his scaly exterior. He's probably the slowest character but also the most powerful, able to pummel whoever gets in his way with pretty relative easy. He can also blast sound waves that freezes most enemies.
Fang the Sniper
Art by nibrocrock.
An assassin by trade, he was sent by an unknown employer to take out Sonic the Hedgehog. He is fought in Round 1: Concert Hall and is attempting to escape after the botched assassination. He fires giant bullets that can be sent back by some attacks, and hitting him directly doesn't hurt either! Well, he'll be hurt, but it won't hurt you. Do you get what we mean?
Leader of the rival band The Deadly Six, Zavok is jealous of the Junkhogs' relative success and a fit of jealously, attacks the group in Round 2: Beach Boardwalk. He excels in close combat, using combos of punches where he can surround his fists with red energy for more powerful strikes and using guards to protect himself. Because of that, it's probably the best idea to use projectile attacks for him, or very quick melee attacks.
Rouge the Bat
Art by nerfuffle.
Another assassin by trade, sent by presumably the same employer to stop Sonic the Hedgehog. She is fought in Round 3: Pumpkin Hill as attacks with her hidden daggers and spin stomps. She mostly stays at the top of the screen, so you need to attack her when she gets low.
- The game's development was leaked by Solarrion (t∣b∣c) on chat before it was officially announced.
- The game's title and tone were inspired by Garbage's album "Version 2.0" which was released in 1998.
- Many of the game's elements come from Sonic's earliest pitches.
- Sonic's human girlfriend was a element from one of the original Sonic pitchs and would have acted as a personality-less damsel in distress. She debuts in this game with a personality and is actively part of the action.
- Sonic also had a band in another one of the original pitches, this possibly being a much later element.
- Vector being part of Sonic's band may be a reference to the image shown here.
- Sonic has visible fangs in cutscenes, this also being an element from the original pitches.
