Sonic: Racing is the indirect sequel to the Sega Saturn game Sonic R. The game borrows elements from Sonic R as well as Racing game features. The game was developed by Bandai Namco and published by SEGA. At release the game was met with good reception, becoming a new Sonic smash hit. Being released on the Wii U was a risky move, stated Hariyama Mataso in an interview with Gaming Monthly: Kai. ( The Japanese magazine ). Fortunately the Wii U's numbers raised by 4.6 million due to Sonic: Racing.
Sonic: Racing, much like Sonic R pits multiple Sonic The Hedgehog characters in a race. Simple, really. Being released on the Wii U meant that the Developers had hardly any limitations.
Each map has multiple objects for player to discover while racing, finding all of a certain item on a stage will present the user with a reward.
