It's because unlike you, I feel compassion for life. You simply view it as the objective. I cherish it, you trample after it. I protect it, you capture it. We're quite different you and I.

Solotus is a Venari beastmaster and member of the Venari's Rangers organization. Unlike the rest of his race, Solotus tends to capture and form bonds with the beasts of the worlds he visits as a Ranger, which has earned him the ire of his superiors, but allows for him to efficiently do his job.

Appearance[]

Solotus is a member of the human-esque Venari species, which generally have a larger, more muscular build and more pointed ears. Solotus in particular is of average height and weight, with a scar along his right eye. He tends to wear the skull of an unknown beast on his head, alongside standard-issue Ranger armor. His only hair is simply a short green haircut that's usually concealed by the beast skull.

Personality[]

Solotus cares deeply about wildlife and animals, which is fitting considering his position as a Ranger. Using his equipment, he tends to capture beasts he sees as powerful and fight alongside them, treating them as equals. In general however, Solotus is a determined, resourceful person who will use anything in his toolkit to his advantage.

However, Solotus can often be seen as a rule-breaker, due to his desire to do good things his own way. This can make it hard to reason with him, though it does make freedom something he holds in high regard.

Abilities[]

Solotus relies extensively on his equipment as a Ranger, alongside his training. From the age of twelve, he had been trained in the organization, learning about battle tactics and survival skills. If you were to throw Solotus into the middle of nowhere, he'd probably find a way to remain alive. In general however, Solotus is a well-disciplined fighter who's been trained extensively.

Some of Solotus's specific abilities can be seen here:

General Skills

  • Athleticism: Solotus is extremely nimble, capable of dodging attacks and keeping the enemy on their toes. He's also a
  • Tracking: Solotus is well-versed in being able to track individuals. Originally this skill was meant for animals only, but he would later apply it to sentient beings.
  • Survival Skills: Solotus is capable of adapting to any environment and figuring out how to survive in it thanks to his Ranger training.
  • Animal Companionship: Solotus is capable of bonding with wildlife and getting them not to attack him should he wish.
  • Mechanics: Solotus seems to be skilled with machines to some degree, seeing as how he managed to modify his Ranger Bow.
  • Unarmed Combat: Solotus has some training with unarmed combat, just in case if he's ever disarmed.

Equipment/Equipment-Specific Techniques

  • Ranger Armor: Solotus's standard-issue Ranger armor protects him from a wide variety of attacks and injuries. It also comes equipped with a lot of functionality, and has been altered cosmetically with pieces of bone.
    • Communicator: A communications device exists within Solotus's armor that allows for him to contact his superiors at any time.
    • Spiked Knuckles: The gauntlets of the Ranger Armor have retractable spikes that improve Solotus's unarmed fighting capabilities.
  • Ranger Bow: A standard-issue Ranger Bow, Solotus has modified it extensively to accomodate his beastmaster fighting style, and it serves as his primary weapon. It shoots arrows made of energy, but Solotus has added a special arrow type that can "mark" targets for his beasts to attack, not to mention other arrow types. The bow can also unfold into two energy knives for close-range combat.
    • Energy Arrows: The main projectile shot from Solotus's bow, Energy Arrows simply harm whatever they hit.
    • Marking Arrows: Added to the Ranger Bow by Solotus, Marking Arrows, when they hit a target, produce a scent that draws Solotus's beasts to attack them.
  • Ranger Spheres: Solotus's Ranger Spheres were originally designed for capturing weakened or willing living beings, placing them in a pocket dimension where their wounds are healed, before being released back on the planet Venaral. However, Solotus keeps a few extra ones on-hand to actively keep his beast companions with him, a practice that has been frowned upon by his superiors.
  • Trapping Grenades: Trapping grenades create a bubble of energy upon detonation that trap anything inside. Solotus often uses them for targets who tend to move quickly.

Weaknesses

  • Hotheaded: Solotus can be hotheaded at times, and often states his opinions when angered by something.
  • All Offense: Solotus is a bit of a glass cannon, and not that defensive of a fighter.

Beasts[]

Solotus has three beasts at his side who he fights alongside, keeping them within the pocket dimension-linked Ranger Spheres.

Dentos[]

Dentos

Dentos is probably the most savage of Solotus's three beasts. When they first met, Solotus had only barely weakened him enough to capture via his Ranger Spheres, and it took even longer for him to tame the thing. Dentos is also extremely playful and often holds household objects between his teeth.

Pedikus[]

Pedikus

Pedikus is the most compassionate of the three, often cuddling up to Solotus despite her...rough exterior. She's always hungry, and won't hesitate to gnaw on Solotus's arm playfully in demand for food. Pedikus is unique in that she's the only one of the three with no hands, instead having four spike-like appendages for battle.

Fugosh[]

Fugosh

Fugosh is the only beast in Solotus's possession that's capable of flight, with Solotus occasionally riding on his back. He's generally more timid, and tends to be quite vocal when angry.

Appearances[]

A Ranger's Duty[]

Solotus debuted in A Ranger's Duty, where he is sent to Ascerth as part of his latest mission, disgruntled by the idea of going to a planet with sentient beings.

Trivia[]

  • Solotus's tendency to break protocol was inspired by Anakin Skywalker, and his animal companionship was based on Rexxar from the Warcraft franchise, along with the concept of Pokemon Trainers as a whole.
    • Unlike Pokemon Trainers however, Solotus actively fights alongside the creatures he's captured rather than simply issuing orders to them.
  • Solotus actually came about during a conversation Krexxal (tbc) had with Athena Hawkins (tbc) in regards to wildlife in the Zaxinian Lifts.
