"Snap Jaw" (Yoshi's Island DS) |
Snapjaws are enemies that appear in Donkey Kong Jr., Donkey Kong on the Game Boy, and the first three games of the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series. In terms of physical appearance, they are a sort of cross between alligators and bear traps, and are usually found climbing vines in an attempt to bite the player's character. In Donkey Kong Jr., blue Snapjaws will simply fall off and try to bite the character from above, while red ones will continuously climb up and down and can move on platforms. They cannot be stomped, instead requiring the player to utilize fruit projectiles or a Hammer to defeat them.
More organic-looking variants of Snapjaws, referred to as "Snap Jaws", appear in Yoshi's Island DS in levels where Baby Donkey Kong is the primary baby the Yoshis must carry through the stage. They act in a similar manner to their original mechanical counterparts, but can be stomped on the head.
