Shadow Lands is a beat-em'-up game released by Amity Studios on November 3rd, 2017, being the first game the company ever truly made. The game follows the globe-trotting adventures of Allen and Alex Jereni, two siblings granted with the powers of a ghost who have sworn to take down the ever-growing demon army. The game is inspired by other games like Bayonetta, Anarchy Reigns, and Dynasty Warriors, with said inspiration going into the gameplay, visuals, and story.

Gameplay[]

The game, as stated before, is a beat-em'-up game with elements from franchises like Dynasty Warriors, Anarchy Reigns, and Bayonetta. Your goal is to take back certain bases/buildings from an enemy faction (in this game's case, it's demons) and destroy as many adversaries you can, with the game giving you bonuses depending on how many you kill, along with the factors of death, damage, and time, tallying up your overall score. With these points, you get "Ghost Coins" that you can spend on new weapons, abilities, costumes, and upgrades for the characters. These upgrades can be applicable to either Allen or Alex.

"My Pet Ghoul" is a mode that allows you to customize and take care of a ghostly animal of your choosing, with said animals species being called "Ghouls". The ghouls range in animals, shapes, and sizes, along with their individual likes, dislikes, and tastes. You can use said Ghoul in battle one time to provide a boost on of five categories. The boost they give you depends on how you customize and raise them.

The playstyles of Allen and Alex is extremely varied. While Allen is more defensive, Alex is much more offensive. Both share the ability to go into their ghost forms, which is due to a meter that's filled up after killing enough enemies. When the meter is full, the character can switch into their ghost forms, which can be reverted if the twins take too much damage from the enemies around them.

The Odyssey[]

The Odyssey is the main mode of Shadow Lands, with it being the game's designated story mode. The mode is split up into twenty individual chapters, with each chapter assigning a specific task to Allen or Alex as they eliminate the demon threat in all corners of the world. More information can be found here.

  • Power: This boost gives the player better attack power, making it easier for them to take down enemies.
  • Speed: This boost upgrades the player's speed, allowing for faster movement and faster attacks.
  • Defense: This boost makes the player's defense rise up, allowing them to take much more hits.
