Since their were so many characters in the game stages would be to difficult to put in the game if they were from the games the video games characters were from. So developers created all new stages for the game.

  • Factory: an old abandoned factory that is controlled by machines, opponents fight next to a conveyor belt.
  • Treetops: a village built in the trees, opponents fight in front of a hut with monkey like creatures watching and cheering next to a put out fire. This stage also has a night version where the creatures are cheering next to a lit fire.
  • Cave: a dark cave that is home to an unknown creature, opponents fight next to dimly lit torches with the floor scattered with bones in the background a siloutte of a creature watches and roars.
  • Ship In A Bottle: a gigantic ship in a bottle, opponents fight on the ships deck with cannon firing at the glass of the bottle trying to break out.
  • The Junk Bot: a gigantic robot made out of junk with a flat platform connected to its back, opponents fight on the flat platform as the robot walks around a landfill.
  • Dagmar: a landfill on fire, opponents fight on the ground littered with junk in the background are piles of trash on fire, sometimes the Junk Bot can be seen climbing the moutains of trash unharmed by the fire.
  • The Whale: the inside of a whale, opponents fight on the tounge of the whale the uvula is visible in the background sometimes the whale will oppen its mouth reavealing light.
  • The Eye's Pyrimad: the inside of an ancient pyrimad, opponents fight in front of a tomb with a giant eye above the entrance never blinking and just watching the opponents fight it will move its eye to look at the opponents.

Retro Rumble plays like a normal fighting game with two or four opponents facing each other in combat. Every character also has speacial moves. Instead of depleating the opponents life bar to zero and then reseting the fighters start at 0% health the fighters have to defeat the opponent by filling up their bar to 100%. After that the round resets but whoever won the first round will still have 0% health but the loser of the first round has 100% health. The winner of the first round then tries to deplete the opponents bar back to 0% while the loser of the first round still tries to fill the winners bar up to 100%. If the loser wins the 2nd round then a 3rd round is engaged. In this 3rd round both opponents try to deplete the others health bar to 0%.

With so many characters the opponents move set was limited mainly to just standard punches & kicks with blocking and uppercutting added to. The designers also had some trouble adjusting some of the characters to take body and face shots due to the fact that their body shape is different some of these characters are Pac-Man and Yellow Knight. Pac-Man was troubling because his head is basically his body, while Yellow Knight was trouble due to the fact that he is riding his ostrich. Every character was aslo limited to the amount of speacial moves. The developers also had to work around the blood issue because some of the fighters came from games with blood and gore in them so it was challenging to work around it.

Originally their was supposed to be DLC but with so much data already in the game developers were unable to add it.

The stage Dagmar is a burning landfill the word dagmar actually translates to "the landfill is burning".

Many of the characters were origanally not supposed to be in the game but realizing how popular those characters are were added.

The game Primal Rage is a fighting game with giant dinosaurs and gorrilas fighting each other due to the popularity of the game and its characters the fighters added from the game were resized.

This is the first time Primal Rage characters were added to the new consoles the last console it was on was the original playstation and the game didn't due as well as the arcade version.

Origianly Mr. SandMan was to be the boss from Punch Out!!! but was then replaced by Mr. Dream.

Many critics thought the game would do awful due to the fact they were pairing up characters like Scorpion and Ryu with characters like Mario and Sonic but when critics reviewed it they approved and rated it highly.

Kirby was orignally supposed to be included but was replaced by Little Mac.

King Hippo was originally supposed to be Mappy it is unknown why it was changed.

Developers were nervous about creating the game due to the fact that they were pitting popular family characters like Mario with popular characters that applied to an older audience like Sub-Zero.
