Potions are a frequently-recurring item in at least two Nintendo franchises, each with a similar effect.
Zelda series[]
There are a multitude of potions in the Zelda franchise. The three most common ones, which debuted in A Link to the Past, are Red, Green, and Blue Potions. Red Potions restore Link's HP, while Green Potions restore his Magic Meter (obviously, this potion doesn't appear in games that don't have the ability for him to use magic). Blue Potions do both. In some games, Link may need to have an empty Bottle item in order to obtain Potions, as they will not be provided with their own flask and must be poured into the Bottle. Link must usually pay Rupees to obtain Potions at shops.
Pokémon series[]
In Pokémon, the Potion is a basic healing item that's been present in all generations. Give it to a Pokémon at less than full HP to restore it by up to 20 points. Since it becomes useless on most Pokémon past Level 10, three upgrades exist: the Super Potion, Hyper Potion, and Max Potion. Pokémon is unique for depicting the Potion as a spray, rather than as a flask of drink like the Zelda series and most other RPG's. As in Zelda, Potions must generally be bought at shops.
Fanon appearances[]
St. Clair Publications[]
- For what should be obvious reasons, Potions appear in Tropes vs. Women in Pokémon Training, unchanged from canon.
- Potions are an item in Super Smash Stadium, debuting alongside Saffron City in the spring of 1973. Grab one to lower your damage by 20%.
