Backward Compatibility Nintendo DS (home mode only), Nintendo 3DS (home mode only)

The Portal (codenamed the Nintendo Switch VR) is a ninth generation video game console developed by Polar Inc. and set to release mid-2017. Like the Nintendo Switch, it is an hybrid console, being both a handheld and home console. This is done by having the main console connected to a TV while a special VR headset (which can be connected or disconnected to it as it serves as the handheld device. The headset can only be disconnected if fully charged and has a game connected to it. The Portal's main controller (called the DiMach) is similar to that of an Xbox One but other controllers include backwards compatibility with the Wiimote and a new motion controller (called the DiHoop) which is put on like a wristband. Both motion controllers can't be connected to a VR headset. There is also another controller, called the Portal Handheld, which works the same way as the VR headset except it is more or less like a DS, but the two screens can disconnect, and is one of the two ways to have backwards compatibility with the DS and 3DS (the first simply being TV mode). The console comes bundled with the console itself, the VR headset, a DiMach, a DiHoop and (as of launch) a choice between Super Mario Kart All-Star Collection, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild or Portal Physical Sports (or no game if you would rather).

Home Menu[]

Below is an image of the home menu as of console's release.

Portalhome

The home button obviously brings you back to this interface. The 'news' button allows you to read about the latest updates, games or even just cool tips about the console much like the Switch, only here you are guided by Blue Boo. 'My Apps' allows you to play games or apps you have downloaded (such as Virtual Console games or apps like YouTube or the Mii Creator). The 'Portalverse' section allows you to access the Portalverse Social Media, the Internet or the DiShop. The internet feature allows you to browse the internet while the Portalverse Social Media is a social media app similar to that of Miiverse and the DiShop is Portal's very own eShop. The settings tab allows you to change your settings on the console.

Skins[]

The picture above displays the menu in a Legend of Zelda theme although you can choose whatever theme you want. There are five default skins (or themes) already on the console but you can get more skins as each game (whether cartridge game, download only game or virtual console game) comes with one free skin (as a minimum) each.
