Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Destiny of Eons is an upcoming Nintendo 3DS Title that is a continuation in the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Subseries of the Pokemon Series. It is the first Mystery Dungeon game in 3 generations, the last being Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon. The game features all 1801 Pokemon up to Generation 9 as well as all Mega Evolutions, Supreme Evolutions, Primal Reversions, Mega Primal Reversions & Forme Changes up to that point. The game features the unique mechanic of having 4 different Time Periods it takes place in allowing the player to meet different Pokemon and explore dungeons that change throughout time.

Synopsis

Across four periods of time; The Era of Light, The Era of Change, The Era of Growth and the Era of Ends small cracks begin to form across the land, although unoticeable to many this causes a being to awaken from its slumber knowing the dangers a fissure crossing the space-time contiuum can cause.

Gameplay

Like its predecessors, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Destiny of Eons has Top-Down, Rogue-like Exploration. The game features updated graphics from a combination of Pokemon Anniversary Version and Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon and allows the player to explore randomly generated dungeons that differ in layout each time the player visits them. The player can also recruit Pokemon defeated in dungeons as part of their Exploration Team, should that Pokemon want to join. Evolution is still possible and unlike most Mystery Dungeon games is available before the end of the main storyline although is very late game.

The player has like in almost all Pokemon Games, 4 Attacks they can use, these attacks can be changed through TMs, HMs and learning new moves from Move Tutors and Leveling Up. The player like in all Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Games assumes the role of a Pokemon, having previously been a human turned into one by unknown means the player suffers from speckled amnesia causing them to forget large segments of their past which they slowly regain as the player progresses through the story.

Pokemon can hold items as well as now have seperate item slots for Scarves, Special Items & Mega Stones allowing them to carry up to 4 items at once. In addition held items no longer take up inventory space.

Starter Pokemon

Like at the start of a Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Game the player is introduced with a Personality Quiz, the Personality Quiz has had to be redone for Destiny of Eons as the shear number of Starter Pokemon requires more than just personalities, so now the player is given a colour which describes their responses.

Partner Pokemon can be any of the selectable Pokemon the player can be although cannot share a type, so for example if the player is Charmander the partner cannot be any Fire-Starter or Vulpix, Numel, etc.

Home Town

The Home Town, known as; Victory Village, Victra Town, Vical Town & Vital Village across various eras. Thought the town seems to change somewhat over time increasing in size up to the Era of Growth and then suffering a major loss of area in the Era of Ends it is essentially the same to navigate through, irregardless of Era.

Kecleon Market

Across all Eras generations of Kecleons sell items, wares and orbs to the locals of the Home Town, oddly enough whenever the player visits the Kecleon Brothers irregardless of era they will always be Green and Purple in colour.

Dojo

A building set up in the Era of Change and has sustained itself through the Era of Ends, the Dojo has been run by many masters and apprentices who all follow a similar belief of harnassing ones potential over all types of Pokemon. During the Era of Change the Dojo was opened by its founder, Terralig a mighty Explorerer who desired to pass his knowledge of exploration and power onto the youth, in later eras the Dojo would be taken up by Terralig's great-granddaughter, Chirra in the Era of Growth and later on Chirra's head apprentice, Medicham.

Bank

The Bank was set up in the Era of Light and although it has moved around a bit, it has been owned by a variety of Pokemon although their reasons seem to be all rather different they have been very dedicated to their duty. The first Bank was opened by Crawdaunt and was kept open by his successor, Saldramach. The Bank eventually closed between the Eras of Change and Growth however a new bank opened under the ownership of a pair of Sableye brothers, although this bank would not last long as it was destroyed during the collapse, however thankfully a young explorer in the Era of Growth known and Poliwag would end up investing in building a new bank in the dark times of the Era of Ends when he was a Politoed and opened the final bank.

  • Fuse Moves
  • Seperate Moves

Egg Nursery

The Egg Nursery, started in the Era of Light and sustained through all four eras is a nursery set up to protect the unborn future generations of the home town, although many eggs survive in the wild those Pokemon tend to have more difficulty in forming civil attitudes, the Egg Nursery was thus created to hold eggs found by exploration teams so that the newborn Pokemon could be raised in a structured society. During the Eras of Light and Change the Nursery was run by an Audino who had an apprentice Happiny whom would take over the Nursery in the Era of Growth (as a Chansey), surprisingly the Egg Nursery expanded in the Era of Ends with the Happiny having since become a Blissey and having a Magcargo and Talonflame assist in protecting the eggs.

Berry Greenery

Only seen in the Eras of Light and Change the Berry Greenery was built to grow more berries from single berries found by exploration teams, the Pokemon who help sustain the Berry Greenery change in both eras with the Era of Light members being; Gogoat, Weepinbell, Cherrim & Alglow while the Era of Change members are; Bellossom, Lilligant, Roserade & Ferroseed.

In the Camerupt Police Station is also the Persian Evidence Trade Shop, the Persians that operate this sell old items obtained from criminals and sell them for a lower price than the Kecleon Market, the catch is that all the items are randomized so any item could appear on any day ranging from useless Used TMs to luxurious Rainbow Gummis.

Pokemon World

The World where Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Destiny of Eons takes place is a large group of islands that form a super continent spanning a central settlement and several off-shoots. The world has a wide array of dungeons to explore but what changes up the world the most is the ability to travel to four different eras of teh world's timeline in which various events result in the future eras being the way they are. In addition teh Dungeons change according to which time period the player is currently in, and although initially the player is limited to the Era of Growth they later gain access to the Era of Light, Era of Change and finally the Era of Ends.

Destiny of Eons Map

Across the four time periods the map of Locations accessible in the Pokemon World changes accordingly, as shown below the dungeons change depending on which era the player is in as some dungeons have not fully formed or decayed due to neglect. What is interesting is that the South-West Island known as the Island of Souls is completely inaccessible in the Eras of Light and Change indicating that no activity occured there until the time of the player.

Era of Light

Era of Light Map

The oldest of the four Eras, The Era of Light has some of the oldest Pokemon found in its dungeons and also features 81 locations that can be visited, the least of any Era. During the Era of Light 3 Settlements arose; Victory Village, Stonecutter Hills & Grassweave Valley although they had very limited contact the three did possess knowledge of each others' existence. During the Era of Light the land was chaotic, dangerous and monstrous Pokemon roamed the wilds and dungeons causing the weaker Pokemon to band together to stay alive, the Era of Light is the third Era the player can visit as it is needed to start unravelling the damage done in the Era of Growth that was hidden during the Era of Change.

During the Era of Light the Legendary Birds took refuge Across the North-East, South-East and West-most islands respectively to their Primary Type. In addition a monstrous creature is said to lurk in the crater near Moltres' home while at Articuno's home a creature of devestating power was said to lurk below the waters. The Era of Light has the most Legendaries in comparison to no. of dungeonts of any Era.

Era of Change

Era of Change Map

The Era of Change is the second oldest Era and signifies when Exploration Teams really started appearing. The Era of Change has 92 Locations and is one of two eras in which all settlements can be visited although they are smaller than as they appear in the Era of Growth. By this time Victory Village had expanded somewhat and become known as Victra Town, meanwhile Stonecutter Hills expanded southward becoming Stonecutter Mountain, while this occured Grassweave Valley began construction on a project completed in the Era of Growth known as the floating village, where the inhabitants of the settlement were determined to create a settlement that did not make contact with the ground.

During the Era of Change, a strange group of Legendaries which would later become known as the Sealing 10 appeared across the world and guarded sacred treasures. The settlements during this era are; Victra Town, Stonecutter Mountain, Grassweave Valley, Hotspot Springs, Coldmark Village & Ridgerise Village.

Era of Growth

Era of Growth Map

The Era of Growht is the first Era the player visits, being the one they start in, it is also the first Era in which the Island of Souls is accessible. During this time many dungeons cropped up as Exploration Teams had reached a signficiant peak in popularity with brave, strong and smart Pokemon forming teams to find the riches of the ancient past. It was during the Era of Growth that findings in ancient ruins revealed troubling concerns regarding the future of the world as they knew it and that by not changing it a cataclysmic event would ensue. There are a total of 115 locations to visit.

During this time the legendary Pokemon of Time, Space and Anti-Matter became widely known to the Pokemon of the world who saught an audience with any member of the trio believing it would bring them safety and hope. In addition several other Legendaries became more active including a quartet of swordsmen. During this era the settlements are known as; Vical Town, Stonecutter Mountain, Floatweave Town, Smelterboil Village, Coldmark Village & Ridgerise Town.

Era of Ends

Era of Ends Map
The last era both chronologically and in the order the player visits, the Era of Ends gets its name from the seemingly shattered world that it had become, due to a cataclysmic event many Pokemon were erased from existence from that point onwards and this lead to chaos, uprisings and the destruction of nearly every settlement aside from Vical Town which had reverted to a minor village known as Vital Village. One of the only Pokemon to see this destruction unfold as well as the chaos it created was a young Caterpie who would later help bring hope into the Era of Ends. The Era of Ends has 125 Locations the most of any Era and all but 1 are Dungeons with the exception being Vital Village.

During this time many legendaries tried to ward off the impending destruction although ultimately failed with most simply being destroyed a few exceptions survived however were driven insane by the power they faced and became dangers for the Pokemon around them, this has resulted in Kyurem being locked away on the Island of Chills.

Dungeons

Across the four eras there are a multitude of dungeons that the player and their exploration team can explore, these dungeons can appear across multiple eras and vary in Pokemon, No. of Floors and even difficulty depending on which era the player is in.

Trivia

  • This is the first Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Game since Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky that has had a Pokemon as a Final Boss
    • It is also the first Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Game to feature multiple enemies as the final boss
  • Several Dungeons in this game initially have no end room although after completing the main storyline allow the player to reach an end room to fight the Legendary Pokemon of that dungeon
  • Several Bosses in this game are underleveled the first being Claydol who doesn't normally evolve until Level 36
  • Cobalion is the only member of the Musketeer Trio that isn't fought in the storyline
  • While there is a chance to encounter Shiny Pokemon in the dungeons through random chance, there is one Shiny Pokemon encountered in the storyline being the Mecharnaught Leader, this is similar to how in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky there is a Shiny Celebi that appears in the storyline although in that game no other Shiny Pokemon appear aside from a differently coloured Kecleon
  • This is the second Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Game to have Dialga as a Final Boss the first being Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky
    • Interestingly Dhyaneel the Head Legendary of the 9th Generation which this game is a part of is not featured as a Storyline boss at all, instead being relugated as one of the two highest leveled Post-Game Bosses
