Pokémon XD: Mind of Shadows (Japanese: ポケモンXD 心の影, Pokémon XD: Shadows of the Mind) is an upcoming game for the Nintendo Wii U. It is a part of the sixth generation of the Pokémon series, capable of trading with Pokémon X and Y or uploading to the Pokémon Bank after certain progress is made. It follows the story of the player as s/he tries to uncover the truth behind the strange Shadow Pokémon that have recently started appearing in the Reikon region.

Gameplay

Batles

The battle system is practically identical to the one in Pokémon X and Y, with minor changes to better-allow the usage of Shadow Pokémon. The television screen is entirely dedicated to the visuals of battles, while health bars are only visible in-between turns or underneath the Pokémon receiving damage.

The GamePad is used to issue commands, use items, call Pokémon, or switch out; when playing in Off-TV mode, the commands overlay the battle scene with a translucent background until commands are selected, before disappearing until the next selection.

Location

Far to the east of Kalos lies a wide, open area which is mostly secluded. Called the Reikon region, it is similar to Orre that it has few wild Pokémon and is far from the other regions. It has a strange air about it, almost as if the entire region is alive and appears to be hiding a great mystery.

Trainer Customization

Upon starting a new game, you are prompted to either create a new character, or load an existing one. Up to five characters can be created for each Nintendo Network ID. Pre-made models include Red, Leaf, Ethan, Kris, Brendan, May, Lucas, Dawn, Hilbert, Hilda, Nate, Rosa, Calem,  and Serena, as well as the default characters for the game, Richter and Shana.

Shadow Pokémon Information

Pokémon that have had the door to their heart shut are capable of utilizing Shadow moves that other Pokémon cannot use. These Shadow moves are replaced upon purification, with one of the moves being something they can never learn naturally. When using Shadow moves, however, Pokémon have a chance to enter Hyper Mode, in which they may disobey the trainer or even attack themselves. Calling them will return them to normal, as well as help in purification.

The Shadow Boost factor is applied to all Shadow Pokémon under the possession of opponents. Like Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, it is signifie by a plus sign added after the level of the Pokémon. While the factor disappears upon capture, it allows for Shadow Pokémon to act as a level higher than that they are listed at to serve as enemies that are more powerful than average.

Very powerful characters within the evil organization closing the doors to Pokémon's hearts have Shadow Pokémon that are a force to be reckoned with. By forcefully shutting their hearts out, natural Mega Evolution has become impossible for these Pokémon. But through a series of secret tests, they can force a Shadow Pokémon into mega evolving, which is actually quite painful for the Pokémon. It corrupts the Pokémon, sending it into a sort of rage that is difficult to recover from.
