Pokémon Topaz Version and Pokémon Peridot Version are a pair of upcoming Pokémon games, and the first two games of Generation VII of the Pokémon series. This game is one of the most innovative of the series, introducing new Battle types, extension on normal features, and a whopping Four new types (Cosmic, Sound, Color, and Mystic). The game is set for a 2017 release for the Nintendo 3DS.

New Features

New Types

In Topaz and Peridot, a whopping four types are introduced to the game, making a total of 22 types in the series now. These four types are Color, Sound, Cosmic, and Mystic.

The Color type is a type dedicated to Pokemon with colorful or artistic properties, like paint and art. There are almost no retypes for this type; the only retypes for this type are Kecleon and Smeargle. However, making up for the lack of retypes is the amount of new Color-type Pokemon introduced-like Tentacolour and Arteon-as well as a few Megas with the Color type. The Color type is confirmed to be supereffective against Normal, Rock, and Fighting, and weak to Water, Dark, and Steel. There is also an Elite 4 member, Casso, who uses Color-type Pokemon.

The Sound type is for Pokemon with noise-inducing powers or properties, and for music-based Pokemon. Pokemon retyped to Sound include Noivern, Kricketune, Chimecho, and Exploud. There are also many new Sound type Pokemon introduced in this game, like Screechick and Cellonial. The Sound type is confirmed to be supereffective against Psychic, Steel, and Electric, but weak against Bug and Cosmic. Sadly, Sound-type moves don't affect the Cosmic type. One of the Gym Leaders, Xyla, specializes in Sound-type Pokemon.

The Cosmic type is for Pokemon with space or cosmic relation, or Pokemon with cosmic properties. Pokemon retyped for the Cosmic type include Clefable, Claydol, and Deoxys. There are also many new Cosmic-type Pokemon to sue, like Astreon and Shuttlore. The Cosmic Type is super-effective against Sound, Water, Dark, and Steel, but weak to Fairy and Fire. It also has an immunity to the Sound-type. One of the Gym Leaders, Astrein, specializes in Cosmic-type Pokemon.

The Mystic type is the final type that was confirmed for the game. The Mystic-type is dedicated to Pokemon with magical properties. Retyped Pokemon for the Mystic type include Delphox, Mismagius, and Dunsparce. New Mystic-type Pokemon include Drillnysti and Encharmente. The Mystic-type has many strengths, specifically against Dragon, Ghost, Poison, Fairy, and Fighting. However, it's weak to Dark, Fire, and Steel. One of the Gym Leaders, Arcani, specializes in Mystic-types.

List of Retyped Pokemon

With a whopping four types being introduced, it's evident that some Pokemon will go through type changes for the new types; but since there are so many new types, there are more retypes then ever before. The type below each Pokemon is the new typing; whether it's purely the new type or a dual type alongside the new type.

New Evolutions to Past Pokémon

Akin to Gen 2 and Gen 4, Topaz and Peridot introduces several new evolutions to previously unevolved or second stage Pokémon. Most of these methods now include a new method of evolution. Here they are;

  • Wingyang (Evolves from Farfetch'd if it levels up to a level past 35 if it is holding a Stick.)
  • Comseon (Evolves from Eevee if it levels up with high enough friendship if in a Cosmic Zone.)
  • Arteon (Evoles from Eevee if it levels up with its four moves are all a different type.)
  • Drillnysti (Evolves from Dunsparce by trading it with Soft Sand.)
  • Screechick (Evolves from Chatot when it evolves to a level past 35 if it knows Chatter AND is loud enough.)

New Moves

Name Type Description Damage Accuracy Class
Ace Normal The user takes out a special card with the Ace on it rather than a number, and it disappears. The card than blasts itself at the target, and deals a large amount of damage, and has a 5% chance to lower all of the opponent's stats by 1. This will not work if the user doesn't have Card Pick as one of its other moves. 120 60
Special
Card Pick Normal The user takes out a card, and it disappears in the user's hand as the effect goes into play. If the card is shown to be a 1-3, the card does 50 base damage and has a 20% chance of the opponent flinching. If the card is 4-6, the card does 70 damage, and has a 40% chance of sharply lowering the opponent's Special Defense. If the card is 7-9, the card does 90 damage, and has a 25% chance of sharply lowering the opponent's Attack and Special Attack stats. If the card is 10 or 11, the card does 120 damage and has a 10% chance of raising all of the user's stats. And if the card is a 12, the card does 150 damage, and gives the target a random status effect (Poison, Paralysis, Burn, Blinded, Confused, Frozen, Asleep, or Infatuated). Varies 100
Special
Light Chain Normal The user, using combined light, creates a golden chain that latches on the opponent and does damage when used. While the user is chained, the trapped target cannot escape and, if the target tries to escape OR has a switching move used on it (like Roar), the target will take damage. 45 100
Special
Fruit Tree Grass The user forms a small fruit and eats it, healing 1/4 of its maximum health. If the user has used a Grass-type move before this, the health is increased to 1/3 of its maximum health. - -
Status
Fireball Fire The user hurls a round sphere of fire toward its target, which does damage. There is a 20% chance of the target getting burned after the move is used. 60 95
Special
Sun Sphere Fire The user gathers energy from the sun, and hurls it at its target. This attack only does damage when the weather is Sunny. This move does nothing in any other weather condition, or if there is no weather condition at all. 120 100
Special
Water Wings Water The user, using its wings (or manipulating water), creates two large wings made of water and slams the wings into its target, which does damage. The user then gains the Water Wings status- where the user is immune to Ground-type moves and is healed when hit with Water-type moves. 70 100
Physical
Shadow Fog Dark The user spews extremely dark smoke onto the battlefield. While the Shadow Fog is in play, Weather cannot come into play, light-based moves cannot be used, moves that give the target the Blinded status do not affect, and Dark and Ghost type moves have 1.5x power and do not miss. - -
Status
Sparkling Light Fairy The user flashes a blinding pink light at the target's eyes. This move will give the target the Blinded status. This move does not work if Shadow Fog is in play. - 65
Status
Color Splash Color The user splashes a blast of multi-colored ink towards the target. If it hits, there's a 20% chance of the target getting the Blinding status effect. 55 80
Special
Paintbrush Slash Color The user uses a paintbrush-like weapon to slash at the opponent, dealing damage. When it hits, there's a 10% chance a STAB/supereffective move against the user changes to Color-type. There's also a 20% chance of the target getting the Blinded status effect. 75 85
