Pokémon InfernoRed and Surging Blue are remakes of the original Pokémon Red and Blue. Unlike other Pokémon games, more than half of the 721 Pokémon can be found in the wild or in specific locations. The games will be released worldwide on September 28, 2016.

Plot

InfernoRed and SurgingBlue essentially follows the main plot of FireRed and LeafGreen, but with a few changes. Unlike other Pokémon games, the story in these games are non-canon, meaning the plots are nessesarily part of the series.

The game begins with the player meeting Professor Oak in Pallet Town. The professor gives the player either a Charmander, a Squirtle, or a Bulbasaur. Professor Oak also gives the player a Charizardite X (InfernoRed)/Charizardite Y (SurgingBlue), a Blastoiseite, or a Venusaurite, depending on the starter the player chose. Oak's grandson, Blue, however gets jealous of the player and demands a Pokémon too. Oak lets Blue choose a Pokémon, and Blue chooses the starter that is super-effective agaisnt the player's. The two Trainers fight, and the player wins. Blue vows to beat the player one day and storms off. Oak congratulates the player and asks him/her to take the Pokémon League Challenge. Oak gives the player a Pokédex, and heads out to find Blue.

The player catches Pokémon and defeats the Gym Leaders on his/her journey, sometimes meeting up with Blue. Several times, the player meets the evil Team Rocket, who wants to steal money from innocent Trainers. The player challenges the Pokémon League to become the Champion, but realizes Blue has become Champion right before the player came. The two battle, and the player becomes the Champion.

After the player becomes Champion, an earthquake shakes the entire region. Professor Oak tells the player that the earthquake has came from R Tower, home of the R Foundation, a company that provides power to the entire Kanto region. When the player investigates, Giovanni is seen in front of a giant container. Giovanni explains that Team Rocket exists to create organic lifeforms to help society, but their funding was cut by the Pokémon League. Giovanni says that Team Rocket has created a clone of the legendary Pokémon Mew, but the experiment was a failure. What was created was the Pokmon Mewtwo. Giovanni apologizes for the inconvience and reveals he put a tracking device on Mewtwo, now asking the player to capture it. Giovanni then turns himself in and promises not to commit crime again. The player then locates and catches Mewtwo, along with finding Mewtwonite X (Surging Blue)/Mewtwonite Y(InfernoRed). After catching Mewtwo, the player is given a Subway Ticket by Blue, who suggests the two travel to Jhoto or the Sevii Islands together.

The player can now challenge the eight Jhoto Gym Leaders and the Jhoto Elite Four and Champion. The player can also stop Team Rocket from capturing Ho-Oh (InfernoRed)/Lugia (SurgingBlue), now run by a new character named Zepher. Afterwards, the player can travel to Mt. Silver to find a future appearation of him/herself and battle Red (if the player is male)/Leaf (if the player is female).

Changes from FireRed and LeafGreen

• Pokémon that gain evolutions after Generation I can now anytime in the story (For example, Golbat can now evolve into Crobat by the sixth Gym Leader is fought).
• Parts of the story and characters are changed in the games.
• A day and night cycle is added to the games which work just like in X and Y.
• Images of locations entered are no longer in the game.
• Tutorials can now be turned off, from either excluding new features to the series or not explaining any features altogether.
• The Johto region can be explored in the games, however, it is not the same as in HeartGold and SoulSilver.
• More than half of the 721 Pokémon and all of the Mega Evolutions are findable in InfernoRed and SurgingBlue.

Compatability to Previous Games

Pokémon InfernoRed and SurgingBlue can connect to X and Y, Omega Ruby and AlphaSapphire, or directly to Pokémon Bank. Pokémon and items can be transferred to Pokémon InfernoRed and SurgingBlue. Pokémon can be brought back, however, new items cannot be transferred back. Pokémon holding new items cannot be brought back unless the item is removed.
