The gameplay in PokeFighters is much like Dragon Ball Z Budokai. It is a 2D side-scrolling fighting game. There are 151 playable Pokemon, 100 of those which are unlocked from the start. Weakness and Resistance is played into effect, but Unlike the main series Pokemon games, the battles aren't turn-based. The battles are more like those of a traditional fighting game such as Tekken. The controls really put the fight int effect
PokeFighters has 2 modes. Duel and Tournament. In Duel mode, you can battle 1-on-1 and you can also battle using Local Multiplayer and SpotPass. The second mode is tournament. In this mode, you pick 1 Pokemon and battle in the 3 tournaments (Easy, Medium, Hard). Once you beat all 3 tournaments, you can battle the final boss, Mewtwo.
PokeFighters also includes a feature where you can transfer Pokemon from your copy of HeartGold or SoulSilver.
