Pikipek is a Normal/Flying-type Pokémon. It appears to be Alola's regional bird Pokémon, much like Pidgey and Fletchling are for Kanto and Kalos, respectively.

Pikipek is a mostly black, scrawny bird, with a flat tailfeather and white face, neck and breastfeathers. Its wing's undersides are of the same color. Its head is tipped with red combfeathers. Pikipek also has two gray feet, with two regular toes and two toes on its heels. It has large eyes with blue sclera.

Pikipek possesses a conical, black and gray beak, which it can peck 16 times per second with. These pecks are strong enough to shatter stone aside from drilling through hard wood. It uses its beak to drill holes in trees and store food in them. It also seems interested in glimmering objects and often puts them alongside its food.

The noises they make with their pecking can be used for signaling. Some of their signals are identified as warnings while others are greetings. Trainers of a Pikipek have grown to recognize these signals as well.

Pikpek attacks opponents by shooting seeds at them. It can shoot them at such strength that the seeds get embedded in tree trunks, similar to a bullet.

  • Pikipek was first seen as a worked-on 3D model in the initial teaser trailer for Pokémon Sun and Moon.

Pikipek is based on the pileated woodpecker, a well-known species of woodpecker.

Name Origin

Pikipek is a corruption on a portmanteau on Picidae, the family the woodpeckers belong to, and the word peck.
