Final Smash Paper Finale/Papercraft Mario

Paper Mario makes his first appearance as a playable character to the Super Smash Bros. franchise in Super 5mash Bros. 5. Paper Mario hails from the Mario franchise and is very similar to his flesh and blood counterpart, Mario. Paper Mario utilizes many of the same abilities and attacks as Mario though with a bit more papery quality.

Paper Mario functions very similar to Mario save for a few differences with his weight, size, and power being huge differences. Being made of paper, Mario is lightweight meaning that while he is slightly faster, he suffers from powerful hits and can easily be launched. In addition, he has a slow falling speed which is both a positive and negative aspect for his character. He also has a better air game with a higher jumping ability than Mario. The original Mario has a much higher damage output than Paper Mario but many of Mario’s attacks like the Fireball as a wider hitbox so it sort of balances itself out. Paper Mario plays like a lighter, smaller, less powerful version of Mario with an emphasis on air game and area damage.

Special Custom Set A

Name Damage Description
Neutral Special Fireball 4% (untimed), 6% (timed) Paper Mario fires off a fireball that has a papery effect to it. Unlike Mario’s Fireballs which bounce as it travels, the paper fireballs move up and down while traveling forward. They are a bit slower but have a great distance than Mario’s. However, the biggest change if the ability to press the special button right before it connects with the attack which maximizes the damage and hitbox. This does not apply when throwing out another fireball though.
Custom 1 Paper Ball
Custom 2 Bouncing Fireball
Side Special Boomer 13% (clean), 8% (late) Chucks Boomer which travels in an arch before exploding; dealing damage. It has a high blast radius and high knockback due to the explosion but there is some ending lag after throwing the Pixl.
Custom 1 Barry
Custom 2 Fleep
Up Special Super Jump Punch 2% (hit 1), 1% (hits 2-5), 2% (hit 6) Paper Mario performs a rising uppercut that releases aesthetic coins from those it hits. Weaker than Mario’s version but Paper Mario travels higher.
Custom 1 Floating Jump Punch
Custom 2 Papercraft Punch
Down Special F.L.U.D.D. 0% Paper Mario pulls out F.L.U.D.D. from Super Mario Sunshine, which will blast jets of water to push back opponents, but not damage them. Mario can change the angle of the stream. Much like the Fireballs, the water is paperfied and has a larger hitbox.
Custom 1 Confetti F.l.U.D.D.
Custom 2 Glue F.L.U.D.D.

Special Custom Set B

Name Damage Description
Neutral Special Hammer 6% (un-timed), 18% (timed) Paper Mario pulls out a large hammer and brings it behind him. He then swings it forward; slamming into the opponent. It does a base damage of 6% but tapping the attack special button right before the attack connects causes it to become a Timed attack that does more damage and knockback. During the swinging animation, Paper Mario has super armor but is vulnerable during the initial start up and right before the attack.
Custom 1 Burnhammer 1.3% (untimed per hit), 2.8% (timed per hit) Resembles the default but, instead, Paper Mario swings the hammer forward which causes it to burn. Once it connects, it doesn’t deal much knockback but burns the opponent while launching them. Getting a Timed Attack causes more burn damage, duration, and knockback. Unfortunately, the attack doesn’t benefit from the defaults super armor.
Custom 2 Chillhammer 8% (untimed), 14% (timed) It is faster than the default and the untimed attack does more damage while the timed attack does less. When timed, it has a better chance of freezing the opponent and knocking them upwards into the air.
Side Special Paper Airplane 7% Paper Mario transforms into a Paper Airplane and takes off, knocking opponents upwards as it travels forward. It travels a set distance before transforming back into Paper Mario. It can be used as a recovery attack. While it has good distance, it leaves Paper Mario vulnerable to attack as it can cause Paper Mario to enter into a free fall state if attacked.
Custom 1 Paper Jet 10% It is much faster and does more damage with increased traveling distance than the default. It also has better priority. However, is has increased start up and ending lag during the attacks animations.
Custom 2 Free Paper Airplane 4% It does less damage but allows for slight control over the trajectory of the airplane. It also does less knockback.
Up Special Spring Shoes 0% Paper Mario puts on the Spring Shoes and can charge then by holding down the Up Special command special button. Letting go springs Mario high into the air. It doesn't do damage but it has very high recovery distance. Once he finishes his ascent, he enters into a free fall state and comes back down.
Custom 1 Paper Weight Spring 13% (descent), 15% (ground) Reduced traveling distance but instead of floating back down after the descent, Paper Mario crashes down like a paper weight, dealing damage but it can also cause a Papercide.
Custom 2 3 Time Spring 0% Reduced recovery distance but Papaer Mario can spring off from a platform three times instead of just once.
Down Special Secret Door 3% (door) Paper Mario places a Secret Door sticker. Pressing the special button while in front of it will cause paper Mario to enter which prevents him from being damaged. After 8 seconds, he will return out of the door. When opening the door, it can hit the opponent and knock them back slightly. Performing in consistently causes the duration to lessen to a min of 3 seconds. Attacking the door may also speed up the duration.
Custom 1 Secret Trap door 1% (per hit) Mario places the Secret Door which, when opened, sucks into the nearest opponent and traps them; dealing damage before ejecting them out with knockback. It then vanishes.
Custom 2 Secret Launching Door 5% Functions much like the default but is only active for 5 seconds before launching the opponent high into the air; knocking any nearby opponents backwards.

Final Smash

Name Damage Description
Final Smash 1 Mario Finale 3% (bigger fireball), 2% (smaller fireball), 5% (bigger fireball timed), 3% (smaller fireball timed) Paper Mario's final smash deals the same amount of damage as Mario’s save for it fires off less fireballs than the original one but the fireballs have larger hitboxes. They also move slightly slower thus allowing for more hits. In addition, pressing the special button while they travel causes the fireballs to do more damage and knockback with timed attacks.
Final Smash 2 Papercraft Mario 12% (dash), 20% (throw) Paper Mario stands on top of a giant Papercraft Mario and can control its movements by tilting the control stick right or left. Unlike the ‘’Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam’’ game, Toads do not carry the Papercraft but it moves by hovering on its own. Pressing the attack button causes a charge attack that has high knockback. Pressing the special button causes the Papercraft Mario to be thrown for high damage and very high knockback with a wide hitbox. However, the player has to move the base of the Papercraft to pick up the giant again. It lasts for 15 seconds with the throw and pick up taking about 6 seconds
