Pansear, known in Japan as バオップ (Baoppu) is a Fire-type Pokémon from Unova, and evolves into Simisear when exposed to a Fire Stone. It is a red monkey with a flame-like pluck of hair on its head, and its muzzle, chest and arms are cream-colored.

It forms a trio with the similar-looking Pansage and Panpour.

Trivia

  • Oddly enough, Pansear is the only official Pokémon that evolves via a Fire Stone and doesn't originate from the first Generation.

Origin

Pansear is based on a combination of a monkey and a flame.

Pansage, Pansear and Panpour collectively might be based on the three wise moneys. Pansear itself might represent "hear no evil".

Name Origin

Pansage is a combination of Pan, the genus of chimpanzees, and to sear, to scorch. It is likely a play on the term "pan searing"

The name Baoppu is a combination of either 爆 bào (Chinese for burst/explode) or バースト bāsuto (burst), and ape.
