Sonic Advance 4 is a action platform game for the Nintendo HyperSpace. It is the sequel to Sonic Advance 3 released for the GameBoy Advanced in June 2004. It is the fifth game in the Sonic Advanced series (including Sonic Battle, which is the third installment) It retains the 32-bit graphics of the GameBoy Advance and has similar gameplay.
The story mode contains nine zones, and each nine zones has three acts and a boss fight. In each zone, the player will end up in a hub, with numbered rings representing each act. The boss level is on a portal with the Eggman insignia on it, and the bonus levels are with the bumper ball logo on it. The big ring leads to the passage way where you can change characters and select between zones. There is also a hidden area in the hub of some zones where you can play special stages in order to get a Chaos Emerald.
You play as the characters (controlled by the first player) along with Gemerl (controlled by the CPU or second player).
