"Nintendo α" is a game being developed for the Nintendo Switch by Nintendo, HAL Laboratory, Intelligent Systems, and Game Freak. It will be a crossover between many Nintendo franchises, much like Super Smash Bros. and will kickstart a three part series. This game is said to be "a starting point and will include a variety of Nintendo franchises, ranging from well known ones to lesser known ones.
Story Mode: Luigi and The Gateway[]
TBA
Gameplay[]
The gameplay will be a lot like J-Stars Victory VS fused with Anarchy Reigns. You fight on a battlefield with terrain that you can destroy certain parts of. You can charge up a meter to unleash a "Totaka Blast," which is a special move that differs for each fighter. Assists are also in the game, but can't be used in Story Mode. Enemies are present in all stages in Story Mode, and can be turned on or off in the other modes.
Certain characters are in certain categories, such as All-Out, Speed, Brawl, Defense, and Technician. These categories determine the power of each characters along with their skills. For example, Mario is All-Out, Donkey Kong is Brawl, Link is Technician, Captain Falcon is Speed, and Samus is Defense. Stats are listed when you choose a character, which show their HP, Attack, Defense, Speed, and their base stat total.
The Joy-Cons are obviously used as the main way to play. The analog sticks are used for moving, along with the right analog stick being used for amiibo support. The arrow buttons are used to navigate menus and such, and can be used as an alternate way for moving in the battlefield. The + and - buttons can be used for pausing, and the HOME button is used to go the Switch's home menu. Finally, the A, B, X, and Y buttons are used to attack enemies and use your attacks in battle. The shoulder button (L, R, ZL, ZR) are used to charge up certain attacks that can do even more damage to your enemies.
Single Joy-Con use is not possible, but every other mode is possible, including Tabletop, Handheld, and TV Mode.
Characters[]
Characters are separated in five different categories: All-Out, Brawl, Technician, Speed, and Defense.
amiibo functionality
amiibo are used in this game. When they're tapped into the game for the first time, they give a new weapon for their respective character. After they're tapped in the next few times, they give you items you can use to buy items and such in game.
Certain variants in amiibo give the character separate items. For example, Dr. Mario will give Mario a bottle of pills, while Gold Mario/Silver Mario will give Mario a coin frisbee.
