Story

Mario, Luigi and Peach are having tea underneath the Acorn Tree and the two toads and Daisy arrive greeting them and joining them. However soon after a giant cloud hovers over revealing to be Bowser's Airship, suddenly though it is hit by lasers causing it to crash nearby. The group look up to see a giant Metal Airship was in pursuit and landed next to Peach's Castle.

The scene cuts to Mario and Luigi helping Bowser out of his Airship and then the group heads to Peach's Castle. Inside the find another Bowser with a distinct Pinkish colour who grunts at the group then grabs the giant Golden Star above Peach's throne and flees back to the Airship. Mario and Co. follow the Airship to discover a tear in the ground, Mario and Luigi look through and see a Blue Mario and Purple Luigi who suddenly jump out of the tear. They get up and explain that they are called Antonio and Carlo and that their Bowser is an even greater tyrant than Mario's Bowser (Bowser folds his arms in annoyance) and is on a conquest to become the ruler of all Universes, by collecting the Golden Stars in each Universe. Mario and Co. decide to help Antonio and Carlo in defeating their Bowser.

The group jump into the tear and fnd themselves in a bizarre version of Peach's Castle which appears abandoned. Antonio explains that their Princess has been captured by their Bowser for a long time and they have been unable to defeat Bowser to rescue her. Mario and Co. then decide to help by traversing the land and reaching this Bowser's Castle.
