Mega Mushrooms are huge Mushrooms in the Mario series that turns Mario or Luigi (or others) into a mega form, which is limited, but they can destroy everything their path, and with get 1-Up Mushrooms, depending on the amount of enemies and things they defeat. Mega Mario can ground pound to make more Goombas or Coins appear. Its polar opposite is the Mini Mushroom, which shrinks the player to a tiny size.

Game Appearances[]

Mario Party series[]

Mario Party 4[]

A Mega Mushroom makes its debut in Mario Party 4, where it allows the player to roll two Dice Blocks. In this game, it has a turquoise cap. It can be obtained on a Mushroom Space, an Item Bag, or purchasing it from the Item Shop. If the player stomps on another player, the victim will lose Coins.

Mario Party 10[]

Mega Mushrooms return in Mario Party 10, using their modern design from New Super Mario Bros.. The item only appears in the amiibo Party mode and act similar to how it did in Mario Party 4.

Super Mario series[]

New Super Mario Bros.[]

The Mega Mushroom makes its Super Mario platformer debut in New Super Mario Bros., where it is given its current design and causes Mario to grow into Mega Mario. In this massive form, Mario is able to crush almost everything in his path, including enemies, block, Warp Pipes, and even the flagpole. He can even defeat bosses in one hit. Destroying obstacles and enemies will fill the Mega Meter, and for every green section that is full, the player will get a 1-Up Mushroom.

New Super Mario Bros. 2[]

After its absence from New Super Mario Bros. Wii, the Mega Mushroom returns in New Super Mario Bros. 2. It retains its function from New Super Mario Bros., although Mega Mario cannot gain 1-Up Mushrooms from the destruction he causes. Also, it is not found in Toad Houses and cannot be put in reserve.

Super Mario 3D World[]

The Mega Mushroom makes its debut in a 3D Mario title in Super Mario 3D World, functioning as it did in New Super Mario Bros. 2. The player can now create shockwaves to hit nearby blocks and enemies if they ground pound. Just as the Mega Mushroom is about to wear off, the music speeds up instead of the player emitting a green light.

Mario Kart series[]

Mario Kart Wii[]

The Mega Mushroom makes its Mario Kart debut in Mario Kart Wii (along with the POW Block and Thunder Cloud), where it can be obtained from 4th to 8th place. In addition to enlarging the player, it grants them the ability to flatten other characters, instantly bringing them to a stop and making them drop their items. When in use, the driver will gain a speed boost and an off-road advantage. The only items that can affect Mega Mushroom drivers are Super Stars, Bullet Bills, and Lightning. If a Mega Mushroom driver gets struck by Lightning, they will revert to normal size instead of becoming tiny.

Mario Kart (arcade)[]

A Mega Mushroom appears as an item in Mario Kart for the arcade. It turns its bearer giant for a short while, crashing out any driver that gets in its way. It also grants immunity to track hazards and other items, even Blue Shells.

Koopa Kart series[]

Koopa Kart DS[]

The Mega Mushroom was going to make its Koopa Kart series debut in Koopa Kart DS along with the POW Block, but both items were scrapped from the final version. Their models and functions are found in the game's files, and they can be modded into the game via hacking.

Koopa Kart Wii[]

The Mega Mushroom is a new item to the Koopa Kart series in Koopa Kart Wii, where it can be obtained from 5th to 11th place. As in Mario Kart Wii, the Mega Mushroom will grant the user the ability to flatten other racers, making them lose their items and move slower. Mega drivers receive a speed and off-road boost, and the only items to which they are vulnerable are Stars and Bullet Bills. Additionally, if the player is big and gets struck by Lightning, they will return to normal size rather than becoming small.

Koopa Kart 7[]

The Mega Mushroom was going to return in Koopa Kart 7, but was scrapped. The final game introduces a stronger variant known as the Super Mega Mushroom.

Koopa Kart Tour[]

After its removal from Koopa Kart 7 and Koopa Kart 8, the Mega Mushroom returns in Koopa Kart Tour with its function from Koopa Kart Wii, although giant drivers can now avoid Bullet Bills, and they grow more slowly, only being able to squash players when they have fully grown. It can be obtained from 4th to 8th place.

Trivia[]
