Mario Kart is an upcoming title in the racing series of the same name. The game is being created for the Nintendo Chrome and introduces many new mechanics into the series. The game prominently features a new "Relay" mode, where players have a rotating selection of characters throughout a single race.

There are 48 courses in the game, with 24 new courses and 24 returning courses. Courses are separated into cups, in which there are four courses across twelve cups. Unlike previous instalments, which featured the ability to choose between nitro and retro cups at the start, Mario Kart has players needing to unlock all cups after the Flower Cup. Additionally, cups are categorized into one of three "circuits", being the Nitro Circuit (cups that include solely new courses), the Retro Circuit (cups that include solely retro courses) and the Super Circuit (cups that include two of both courses). Click the cup icons for more information on the courses.

Like in Mario Kart 8, there are no new stages that can be played in Battle Mode. Instead, eight new retro courses were brought back to be used exclusively in the game's Battle Mode; with a single course returning from a previous instalment. Like with the other retro courses, they have been redesigned and modified to fit the Battle Mode, removing any parts that would make it impossible to traverse backwards through the course. Changes in multiplayer modes
The hero of the Mushroom Kingdom, Mario is the most balanced character in the game, not giving any stat boosts to the vehicles he drives. He prefers to ride red cars, and will often outfit his vehicles with blue decals and his signature M logo.
Mario's little brother who has saved hid red-clad brother quite a few times. Even when outside of a kart, Luigi travels at a higher speed and has less traction than his brother, and this is reflected in his stat boosts. He prefers to ride in green vehicles with blue decals and his signature L insignia.
The princes of the Mushroom Kingdom and the one that sponsors most of the races. Peach is often portrayed as a slower character in platformers, and her karts exhibit this trait as well. Though, she is granted better handling and acceleration to compensate.
Daisy is the best friend of Princess Peach and the ruler of the neighbouring Sarasaland Kingdom. Daisy is a tomboy, much less of a girly-girl than Peach is, and her karts exhibit traits opposite of Peach's giving higher speed and traction at the cost of acceleration and handling.
The Toad species is the dominant population of the Mushroom Kingdom, ruled over by their fair Princess Peach. Toad is the most well-known of the Toad species, and shares his name with his species. He is a very slow character whose kart exhibits a drastic drop in speed, but a drastic increase in acceleration and handling.
A member of the dinosaur-like Yoshi species, Yoshi, like Toad, shares his name with his species. He paints his karts a light green with white details, adding on an emblem detailing a Yoshi Egg. He also adds high speed to his karts, though lowers most other.
Birdo looks like a female, but is in fact a male..... in Super Mario Bros. 2. Ever since, Birdo has been portrayed as a female, often hinted to be in a romantic relationship with Yoshi. Her karts have a hot pink colour scheme, and she adds high acceleration to them.
As a baby, Mario has shown extreme courage, traversing alongside a rainbow of Yoshis to save his twin brother, Luigi. As a baby, Mario keeps a very balanced stat field, though he lowers speed for a boost in acceleration. He uses a very similar colour scheme and emblem as his adult self, though his emblem includes a frill border.
The ever famous Mario covered in a sheet of gold. In New Super Mario Bros. 2, the Gold Flower transforms Mario into this golden form. Gold Mario's stats are very similar to Mario's, sans being heavier and slower. Additionally, Gold Mario collects two coins for every coin picked up on the course.
Strange kids with the ability to transform into a squid form to swim in ink. The Inkling was released as a bonus to those who preordered the game, with high speed and acceleration and low handling and traction. The Inkling comes from the game Splatoon, and is the only non-Mario character to be playable in the game.
Added with the version 1.0.4 patch, Goomba is a very slow character with high handling and acceleration. He was added to aid players in getting used to 200cc mode, which was added to regular online play in the same patch.
A small glass cube with a roulette of items inside it. The Roulette Block grants an item to those that drive through it.
Coins can be collected to slightly increase the racer's top speed, though only ten coins can be collected in a single race. Some hidden content can be unlocked through collecting coins
P-Balloons appear at the beginning of underwater sections, and are used to forcefully activate the underwater driving mechanic in some courses.
Invincibility Leaves appear in some races, mainly as items that appear on hidden shortcuts. They forcefully activate the racer's glider by throwing them into the air.
The Light Box is a small cube with a light protruding from its front side. Some courses use these light boxes to light up the racecourse, and can be run into to have these stick to the front of a racer's kart.
Creates a clone that copies the racer that uses it. Excluding Blue Koopa Shells, all homing items will lock onto the clone instead, and disappear after being hit. To tell them apart, the clone takes a slightly duller colour scheme.
Transforms the racer into a Boo, allowing them to pass through items and other racers. Some courses have certain walls that can only be passed through while in Boo form.
Attaches a cannon onto the front of the racer's kart. Pressing the item button once more will fire a small cannon ball from the box. The item runs on a timer, and shooting cannon balls drastically decreases the timer.

A green-spotted white egg. When thrown, it hones in on the racer ahead, like a Red Koopa Shell, and will cause them to spin out when they are hit by it. When the Yoshi Egg crashes into a wall or a racer, it will release three random items. It can only be obtained by Yoshi and Birdo, though the latter's will have pink spots instead.
An orb of fire. Bowser/Bowser Jr. can use these as projectiles, and will throw three fireballs when he obtains it. They travel in a line, but will separate when they hit a wall, ricocheting into three different directions.
Toad and Toadette's special item. When used, it increases the Toads' speed slightly but also makes them grow to an immense size. At such a giant size, they are able to roll over racers, flattening them. They are also invincible to all items but Bullet Bills and Stars; with Lightning Bolts also shrinking them back to normal size.
Super Sea Snail
The Super Sea Snail is the Inkling's special item. It acts similarly to the regular Mushroom item, though the Inkling leaves a trail of orange ink that spins out all racers that touch it. It also makes her travel slightly faster than a normal Mushroom and the boost lasts longer.
